2. Two Israelis arrested in east Tennessee transporting suspicious materials

The leader of the two Israelis arrested after leading police on a high speed chase in a moving van last Saturday in rural Tennessee is the son of the spokesman for the Likud Party of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the MadCowMorningNews has learned.

The arrested Israeli 'mover,' Shmuel Dahan, 23, is himself a former spokesman, for the National Union of Israeli Students which represents the country's 150,000 university students.

3. In Oak Harbor, Washington, Fox News reported last week that two Israelis with altered passports were apprehended in a rental truck containing traces of TNT and plastic explosives on a state highway running past the home of a fleet of U.S. electronic spy planes, Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.

Suspicion was heightened because the Israelis were driving on a state road running past a Naval Air Station housing electronic warfare Prowler jets, as well as because of the truck driver's insistence that they were moving furniture-a claim that did not seem to mesh with the late hour.

4. PLYMOUTH -- Two men whom police described as Middle Eastern were detained in the township by federal imigration authorities after being found with detailed footage of the Sears Tower in Chicago.

The manager was able to provide township police with the Florida registration number of the tractor-trailer and said that a sign posted on the side of the vehicle read "Moving Systems Incorporated" and included a phone number, police said.

6. Police Chief John Schmidig said: “We got an alert to be on the lookout for a white Chevrolet van with New Jersey registration and writing on the side. Three individuals were seen celebrating in Liberty State Park after the impact. They said three people were jumping up and down.”

By 4pm on the afternoon of September 11, the van was spotted near New Jersey’s Giants stadium. A squad car pulled it over and inside were five men in their 20s. They were hustled out of the car with guns levelled at their heads and handcuffed.

In the car was $4700 in cash, a couple of foreign passports and a pair of box cutters - the concealed Stanley Knife-type blades used by the 19 hijackers who’d flown jetliners into the World Trade Centre and Pentagon just hours before. There were also fresh pictures of the men standing with the smouldering wreckage of the Twin Towers in the background. One image showed a hand flicking a lighter in front of the devastated buildings, like a fan at a pop concert.

7. Cloudcroft chief stops Israelis with suspicious cargo

Cloudcroft Police Chief Gene Green stopped the 2-ton van on Thursday, for speeding. Initially, Green thought the truck was commercial because of exterior markings. But when he found it was out of Chicago, he asked for documentation such as logs books and manifests.

"They said this is a U-Haul truck and handed me a rental agreement (for) in- town delivery only in Illinois, (which) had expired two days before," Green said. He called for backup, and Otero County Sheriff's Deputy Billy Anders, who patrols the Sacramento Mountains, arrived, along with Capt. Norbert Sanchez and Det. Eddie Medrano.

Green said the two men claimed they were Deming bound. "But they couldn't give us an address in Deming they were going to," he said. "Once we got into the truck, they had some junk furniture I wouldn't have given to Goodwill."

Also inside the vehicle were, Green said, "50 boxes" they claimed was a "private" delivery, but the men insisted they had no "idea what was in them."

9. JAY - A man responsible for the closing of a state highway in Delaware County for three hours is familiar to the FBI, Undersheriff Dale Eberle said Monday.

Eberle said the "pipe bomb" was a video camera inside tubes taking pictures of the area's surroundings. The highway patrol determined the pipes did not contain explosives, he said.

"Our concern was for the Pensacola Dam and the two watersheds that feed Tulsa," Eberle said.

Eberle said authorities reviewed the videotape, which showed the surroundings from different angles. The video showed nothing specific, he said.

An inventory of the car showed recording devices and tools, Eberle said.

Eberle said the man was in Jay last week asking questions about the community's industry. He also ate at a local diner, but he refused to use a metal fork or a glass because he didn't want to leave his fingerprints, he said.

The driver, who identified himself as Israeli, was unable to show a passport or visa.

Eberle declined to identify the man since no arrest was made. The FBI received "some hits on his name and said they had dealt with him before," he said.

The man, approximately 40 years old, is married to a U.S. citizen, Eberle said

10. FBI Fury As Men With Nuke Plans, Valid Israeli Passports Escape

...the FBI was hunting yesterday for six men of Middle Eastern appearance carrying plans of a nuclear power plant and the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline who were picked up by police in the Midwest over the weekend but then released.

The incident is thought to be connected with the latest FBI alert and senior intelligence officials are furious that the men were set free before they could be fully questioned.

The men were travelling in two groups of three in white saloon cars when they were pulled over by police officers in the Midwest, according to the Knight Ridder News Service. Security officials have refused to disclose further details.

The men were searched and questioned and the state officers discovered detailed plans and photographs of a nuclear power plant in Florida, along with box cutters — the weapons used in the September 11 attacks — and other equipment.

The men, who appeared to be of Middle Eastern origin and held Israeli passports, were then interviewed by immigration officials.

"The wave of arrests of young Israelis in the United States has been renewed, as 21 Israelis were detained by U.S. Immigration Police in Iowa and South Dakota on charges of illegal peddling, Israel's leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Tuesday.

Some of those arrested held work permits issued by the U.S. embassy in Israel. American immigration officials say, however, that the permits have expired and that the sellers were not allowed to work in the places where they were arrested. Some of the Israelis were released on bail, while others will remain in custody. It is believed that all of them will be expelled from the United States."

In January 2004, U.S. authorities arrested Asher Karni, an Israeli citizen living in South Africa, for allegedly re-exporting U.S.-made triggered spark gaps from South Africa to Pakistan. Among other things, triggered spark gaps can be used to detonate nuclear weapons. Karni's court records offer a rare glimpse into the workings of a company that allegedly transferred items of use in nuclear weapons, and might have done so again, had authorities not been tipped off.

15. JDL-- multiple incidences throughout the years

According to the FBI, the JDL was responsible for at least 37 terrorist acts in the United States in the period from 1968-1983, while the International Terrorism: Attributes of Terrorist Events (ITERATE) database developed on behalf of the United States Central Intelligence Agency by Edward F. Mickolus recorded 50 such incidents from 1968-1987, making the JDL second only to the Puerto Rican FALN (q.v.) as the major domestic terrorist group. Nonetheless the JDL is a legally incorporated political action group and has officially disavowed responsibility for any violent actions carried out by its members. Bombings accounted for 78 percent of all JDL terrorist activities; shootings accounted for 16 percent; while arson attacks, vandalism, kidnapping, threats, and verbal harassment accounted for the rest.

MADSEN: LAST FRIDAY'S INCIDENT WITH ISRAELI IN BALTIMORE TUNNEL

Sep. 25, 2006 -- Before, during, and after the 911 terrorist attacks on the United States, they were seen photographing and conducting other surveillance on critical infrastructure targets around the United States -- from oil refineries in Texas to bridges over the Mississippi and military airbases to nuclear facilities. These young Middle Eastern men and a few women used the cover of door-to-door art sellers to furniture movers to toy vendors at shopping mall kiosks. Their actions aroused the suspicions of federal, state, and local police, however, when detained, they were eventually allowed to return to their home country -- Israel.

Last Friday, another suspicious Israeli -- a 24 year old man -- was stopped by Maryland State Police after a motorist saw him photographing and videotaping the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore from his van, which had Connecticut tags. The incident, reported in a small "Regional Briefing" page 3 column in the Metro section of the Sep. 24th Washington Post, occurred at around 6:30 pm. The Israelis' actions were reported to the Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center, the Maryland State Police unit responsible for homeland security. A half hour after the initial report on the van was received, Maryland police later found the Israeli's van parked on Interstate 95 in Laurel, Maryland and when troopers asked for the Israeli's drivers license, he did not produce one.

The police towed the van (although it is not clear that it was searched and checked for explosives -- a common denominator with the vans of other Israelis seen conducting surveillance of U.S. tunnels and bridges is that most tested positive for explosives). The Israeli was questioned for four hours at the College Park State Police Barracks. UPDATE: An AP report states that police did use a dog explosive detection team to test the Green 1998 Dodge van for explosives and the results were negative. The AP report also states the Israeli did not immediately produce his "international license," a license which is not valid for driving in the United States. The Israeli's passport indicated he had been in the U.S. for one week. The motorist who reported the van said it was traveling south on I-95 through the tunnel and then turned around and traveled north through the tunnel -- in what was clearly some sort of surveillance operation. Police found a lap top and digital camera in the van but there is no information whether the police examined the computer data and photos taken.

Police then released the Israeli after they were "satisfied" with his cover story that he was legally in the United States visiting friends. However, the Israeli's intentions may have been inadvertently provided to the police when he told them he was taking photos of the Fort McHenry tunnel because he was "fascinated" with the Baltimore harbor tunnel system -- an indication that he was also interested in the other highway tunnel in Baltimore -- the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. In October 2005, a threat to blow up the two tunnels with explosive-laden vehicles led police to close them to traffic for two hours.

Former British Ambassador Suspects Government Stoking Iraqi Civil War


Dire situation goes from bad to worse and provides only excuse for troops to stay

Former British Ambassador to the Central Asian Republic of Uzbekistan, Craig Murray, writes today that he suspects the ongoing sectarian violence in Iraq has been intentionally provoked and continued by US and UK special forces in occupation of the country.

Murray states:

"As the catastrophe in Iraq continues to unfold, an unresolved question remains on the role of Bush, Blair, and the US/UK military. To what extent were they passively incompetent in facilitating the decline into civil war, and to what extent were they actively pursuing policies that promoted that outcome?"




Murray suspects that as part of a "divide and conquer" strategy, the same strategy used by British forces in Iraq 85 years ago, Special forces are being used to intentionally foment civil war by training and equipping Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and Shiite militiamen, to target Sunni insurgents and their sympathizers.

The adoption of the 'Salvador Option' by the US in Iraq was reported and discussed from the beginning of 2005 onwards.






Newsweek reported that this Pentagon or CIA handled operation "would even extend across the border into Syria, according to military insiders familiar with the discussions. .. The current thinking is that while U.S. Special Forces would lead operations in, say, Syria, activities inside Iraq itself would be carried out by Iraqi paramilitaries. "

"The evidence that the US directly contributed to the creation of the current civil war in Iraq by its own secretive security strategy is compelling." Murray continues.

He goes on to point out that US Congressman Denis Kucinich took up the issue in April of this year in a letter to Donald Rumsfeld requesting all records pertaining to the plan.

Kucinich weighed in on the matter, providing further evidence that the Salvador Option was being implemented, he wrote:

."About one year before the Newsweek report on the "Salvador Option," it was reported in the American Prospect magazine on January 1, 2004 that part of $3 billion of the $87 billion Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill to fund operations in Iraq, signed into law on November 6, 2003, was designated for the creation of a paramilitary unit manned by militiamen associated with former Iraqi exile groups. According to the Prospect article, experts predicted that creation of this paramilitary unit would "lead to a wave of extrajudicial killings, not only of armed rebels but of nationalists, other opponents of the U.S. occupation and thousands of civilian Baathists."

John Pilger wrote further about the Salvador Option in the New Statesman earlier this year, shedding light on the origins of the plot:

"The real news, which is not reported in the CNN "mainstream" , is that the Salvador Option has been invoked in Iraq. This is the campaign of terror by death squads armed and trained by the US, which attack Sunnis and Shias alike. The goal is the incitement of a real civil war and the break-up of Iraq, the original war aim of Bush's administration. The ministry of the interior in Baghdad, which is run by the CIA, directs the principal death squads. Their members are not exclusively Shia, as the myth goes. The most brutal are the Sunni-led Special Police Commandos, headed by former senior officers in Saddam's Ba'ath Party. This unit was formed and trained by CIA "counter-insurgency " experts, including veterans of the CIA's terror operations in central America in the 1980s, notably El Salvador. "

The confirmation that the Salvador Option had been invoked came quite publicly just over a year ago when British SAS were caught dressed in Arab garb and attempting to stage a terror attacks on Iraqi police. the soldiers were "rescued" by British troops using extreme force and a media blackout ensued.



In addition to the Salvador option, we have also exposed other US and Israeli policy documents stating that it would be beneficial to the overalk strategy to engender strife in the region.

In 1982, Oded Yinon, an official from the Israeli Foreign Affairs office, wrote: "To dissolve Iraq is even more important for us than dissolving Syria. In the short term, it's Iraqi power that constitutes the greatest threat to Israel. The Iran-Iraq war tore Iraq apart and provoked its downfall. All manner of inter-Arab conflict help us and accelerate our goal of breaking up Iraq into small, diverse pieces."






Ethnic cleansing, maimed children and thousands of dead American soldiers are a small price to pay because for the Globalists the end always justifies the means and untold bloodshed and misery and bloodshed won't stand in their way.

That agenda was again underscored recently when Daniel Pipes, a highly influential Straussian Neo-Con media darling, who told the New York Sun that a civil war would aid the US and Israel because it would entangle Iran and Syria and enable those countries to be picked off by the new world empire without the need to sell a direct invasion to the public.





Stephen Zunes, professor of Politics and chair of the Peace & Justice Studies Program at the University of San Francisco, recently wrote,

"Top analysts in the CIA and State Department, as well as large numbers of Middle East experts, warned that a U.S. invasion of Iraq could result in a violent ethnic and sectarian conflict. Even some of the war's intellectual architects acknowledged as much: In a 1997 paper, prior to becoming major figures in the Bush foreign policy team, David Wurmser, Richard Perle, and Douglas Feith predicted that a post-Saddam Iraq would likely be "ripped apart" by sectarianism and other cleavages but called on the United States to "expedite" such a collapse anyway."

"One of the long-standing goals of such neoconservative intellectuals has been to see the Middle East broken up into smaller ethnic or sectarian mini-states, which would include not only large stateless nationalities like the Kurds, but Maronite Christians, Druze, Arab Shi'ites, and others. Such a policy comes not out of respect for the right of self-determination – indeed, the neocons have been steadfast opponents of the Palestinians' desire for statehood, even alongside a secure Israel – but out of an imperial quest for divide-and-rule. The division of the Middle East has long been seen as a means of countering the threat of pan-Arab nationalism and, more recently, pan-Islamist movements."





The machinations of the Machiavellian' s are unfolding according to plan. Let Iraq cascade into chaos and dilute the insurgency by manipulating it to become fractious and watch in-fighting ensue. Blame Iran and Syria for the anarchy (a sentiment echoed by Rice during the cartoon riots) and then move the troops in to decapitate two more rogue nations.



With the news today that nine American troops have been killed in bombings and combat, raising to 67 the number of U.S. troops killed in October, and public support for the war at an all time low, things are only getting worse.

A poll conducted for CNN over the weekend suggests support among Americans for the war in Iraq is dwindling to an all-time low. Just 34 percent of those polled say they support the war, while 64 percent say they oppose it.





Peter Pace, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also acknowledged over the weekend that the overall strategy in Iraq is under review. Gen. told CNN that military plans, including the linchpin of U.S. exit strategy -- reliance on Iraqi forces to take up the fight -- is being reviewed.

Furthermore, British General Richard Dannatt created a furor last week by saying that British troops should "get ourselves out sometime soon because our presence exacerbates the security problems."





A poll published Sunday said 74 percent of Britons agree with Dannatt's comments. He also won the support of several top newspapers and the British Army. Despite this overwhelming support, Dannatt was the subject of a vicious Whitehall whispering campaign as Labour ministers furious at his devastating outburst over Iraq called for him to be sacked.

A new study published by The Lancet also emerged in the past week, estimating that 655,000 Iraqis, the vast majority of them innocent civilians, have been killed as a result of the bombing and occupation of Iraq.

However, Bush would have the world believe that it is us, the war critics that are "Propagandizing, " and "engaging In "Illogical Behavior". Likewise for the rest of his cronies who still go around telling everyone that being in Baghdad is “like being in Manhattan.”

The AP also reported this week that reconstruction funds are drying up, that is the funds that did not go missing or were just wasted away, and America's big builders are pulling out, leaving completed projects and unfulfilled plans in the hands of an Iraqi government unprepared to manage either.

The only excuse for not withdrawing troops with immediate effect is that the situation has become so bad that it is a catch 22 dilemma. This is hogwash. The real reason troops will stay in Iraq is nothing to do with protecting the Iraqi people or the "fledgling democracy", it is purely about geopolitical and strategic positioning. It's about an aggressive occupying force setting up base and being in position for it's next target.

The myth that the occupation is about liberating the Iraqi people is now a known lie. Iraq is now a total and complete military police state, where the "liberated" people enjoy virtually no fundamental human rights. This so called freedom under occupation makes Saddam Hussein look like Nelson Mandela in comparison.

The reasoning behind the war has changed half a dozen times. President Bush keeps revising his explanation for why the U.S. is in Iraq, moving from narrow military objectives at first to history-of-civiliza tion stakes now.

In a remark he made last year about the constant attacks on US troops in Iraq, Bush said: "The insurgents are being defeated; that's why they're continuing to fight." This stunning Orwellian reversal of all logic epitomizes the worsening situation in Iraq. Measuring success in terms of how far you are from success. The Straussian ideology in full flow means that the Bush administration in it's own separate logical world actually does legitimately have a reason to remain in Iraq.

The reality is that The Neocon hordes need to stay in Iraq to order to see through their insane Imperialist project for a new American Century, and the only way they can now do this is by practicing violence in the name of fighting violence. We used to be told that terrorists kidnapped and killed people, I guess it becomes moral when the 'authorities' are behind it.

Nothing in the past 60 years revealed the true face of Israel to the world at large (and perhaps to the Lord above) as its illegal invasion of Lebanon. Never before has the Israeli government allowed the world to witness the depth of its brutal aggression as it defied international law with its collective punishment of the innocent. At no time in the past has Israel lost control of the flow of information allowed into or out of Israel and the occupied territories until it abandoned its borders and invaded Lebanon. That mistake ripped away the veil of “victim hood” that the Israeli propaganda machine had constructed around the tiny, beleaguered state beset with fanatics intent on erasing it “from the map” and suicide bombers that threatened death in the streets.

For a full month the world watched as Israel let loose the enormous power of its military might on small towns, on cities, on roads and bridges, on electric power plants and water supply stations, on ports and ships, on oil tanks and beaches, and on the innocent who fled by car, truck, and foot. The condemnation from the world communities appeared universal, until one turned to America. Here our representatives crawled before AIPAC begging them to pen a resolution that would show our absolute commitment to the devastation being wrought on the Lebanese.

Fortunately, our representatives do not represent the American people any more than our main stream media represents what the people of the United States feel regarding the state without mercy, the reprehensible state of Israel. Indeed, the Jewish state of Israel does not represent the Jews of America. Once the state of Israel realized that its mask of “victim hood” had been lifted and that the world had turned against its atrocities, it quickly accepted intervention by the UN. But its belligerence and defiance of the United Nations and international law continues, most brutally in the millions of unexploded cluster bombs left for the displaced people of Lebanon when they returned home and with the ever present war planes that invade Lebanese air space daily. Now the TV cameras are gone. The world no longer watches the wanton slaughter. Yet Israel has not abandoned its slaughter in Palestine; it’s now into the fourth month, hidden behind the prison walls erected by Israel to keep the cameras out and the people in.
No one sees inside Gaza; no TV anchor man or woman goes to Gaza to show the world what true terror is; nothing seeps through the locked gates that strangle the people inside; nothing reveals to the outside world that Israel and the U.S. are systematically and silently starving over a million people who suffer intense malnutrition; no statistics reveal the rate of unemployment that devastates a people unable to send its produce out or bring goods in; no information tells the world that Israel prevents medical supplies from reaching the people, that hospitals operate on generators only, that medical staff have been murdered, that access to care has been curbed; no one explains to the world the crippling impact this imprisonment has on the minds and souls of children who live in constant fear beneath the boots of an occupying army; no one talks about this calculated genocide behind walls as impenetrable as those at Auschwitz-Birkenau. No one is witness to this nation without mercy.

Inside Palestine there is a group that monitors the abominations committed on behalf of the Jewish state by the IDF, the Palestine Center for Human Rights. Consider just a handful of the statistics they have gathered that are relevant to the siege of Gaza. For the past four months the state of Israel has wrecked havoc on the people of Gaza killing over 320, roughly one third the number Israel slaughtered in Lebanon, including about 60 children, an abomination in any language. Two Israeli soldiers have been killed. As this sixth year of the Israeli occupation of Palestine comes to an end, the IDF killed 3859 Palestinians, 3069 of them civilians (79%). In this last year, Israel killed 504 Palestinians, 398 civilians and 93 children (23%). In targeted killings, Israeli language for assassinations, 376 died, 209 civilians not targeted, including 71 children. Roughly 80% of those killed by Israelis are civilians (PCHR Reports).

Why mention such statistics: Americans never see them, their Congress is immune to them, and the United Nations is powerless to act since the United States, the power behind Israel, vetoes any action raised against this state that has no mercy. I mention these facts for two reasons, to mark the most recent and evident atrocity executed by the state of Israel against the people of Palestine, especially those trapped in the prison of Gaza, and to protest the absence of debate about the perils to the United States brought about by our Congress and the Executive branch’s absolute support for the state of Israel as it carries out untold illegal acts of collective punishment on the people of Palestine.

Let’s put it plainly: Israel is the real “axis of evil,” the primary cause that has brought forth on the United States the terror it fears, as the 9/11 Commission understood but did not report. This government of the Bush administration, working with a Congress that capitulates to the desires of the American Israeli Political Action Committee, not only supports but encourages the outrages committed by this state without mercy. Perhaps we should not be surprised by this, after all this Congress on September 28th passed the Military Commissions Act which, like the laws existing in Israel, “codifies racial and political discrimination, legalizes kidnaping and torture of those the government deems its political enemies, and eliminates habeas corpus – the ancient precept that prevents the police from arresting and holding without cause – a basic protection common to all modern legal systems, and one that dates to the Magna Carta.” (“America’s Nuremberg Laws,” Ted Rall, Commondreams 10/12/06)

It is precisely because this government supports an apartheid state that employs draconian and manifestly illegal laws in the areas it occupies that has turned the Arab countries of the mid-east and, with an ever growing hostility to America’s arrogant hypocrisy in its support of Israel, the nation states of the EU and Asia against the United States.

What is the true nature of this state of Israel that commands the allegiance of the American people?

It is a state without mercy, a state without morals, a state premised on racism, a state built on deception and lies,

*a state defiant of international law, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the Geneva Conventions that apply to occupying powers,

*a state, unlike North Korea or Iran, the other identified Axis of Evil states, that has invaded neighboring states and occupies them,

*a state, unlike all nations in the mid-east, that possesses weapons of mass destruction including hundreds of nuclear weapons and refuses to sign the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty,

*a state that uses cluster bombs and internationally banned weapons of warfare, not only against the innocent people of Lebanon, but the defenseless people of Palestine,

*a state that proclaims itself above the law as it executes individuals without arrest, without charges brought, without counsel, without habeas corpus and trial by jury,

*a state that imprisons over 10,000 Palestinians without charge and without due process of law,

*a state that tortures those it imprisons,

*a state that constructs a wall, in defiance of the International Court of Justice and the United Nations, that encircles the Palestinians with full intention of decimating their economy and hence their livelihood as well as their chance to create a state of their own, while inflicting a psychological humiliation that is inhumane and in defiance of every principle of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,

*a state that has systematically confiscated, appropriated, annexed, and assimilated virtually all land belonging to the Palestinians in a 60 year period of time leaving them approximately 14% of their original land making it the greatest visible land theft known to human kind in our day,

*a state whose laws protect a group that belongs to a religion and denies equality of citizenship to all others including the indigenous people of the land,

*a state that has defied more than 160 UNGA and 39 UNSC Resolutions demanding it act as a civilized state abiding by international law and protocol,

*a state that will not tolerate interference by the UN in its calculated genocide of the Palestinian people,

*a state that, through its Zionist supporters in America, particularly AIPAC, influences U.S. policy in the mid-east that has resulted in the unlawful invasion of Iraq and irrational economic and political procedures against Syria and Iran,

*a state that has convinced our Congress that it provide billions of dollars to ensure that the state of Israel continues this genocide of the Palestinian people,

*a state that proclaims itself a democracy but is not and, with malicious intent, confiscates the money belonging to a democratically elected government in Palestine and arrests their representatives without charge or trial,

*a state that proclaims peace but creates conditions that prevent peace,

*a state that, like the U.S. under Bush, has reached the nadir of the civilized state, a return to lawless barbarism inflicted on the weak by the strong, the imposition of the will of the few on the many,

*and, finally, in all brazen hypocrisy, a state that cries to the world that it is the victim of unspeakable cruelty and in constant peril of obliteration by forces within and without. And we wonder why the U.S. is castigated throughout the world when it supports this rogue state, this state without mercy.

Consider what Israel has done to the Palestinians. It has disfranchised a people in full defiance of international law when, in 1967, the Israeli government declared and treated inhabitants of occupied Palestine as non-citizens and foreign residents. Residents absent during this time period, approximately 250,000, were not allowed to return. The IDF withdrew IDs from thousands of Palestinians when their visas expired thus disfranchising them making them permanent residents but not citizens.”Today, more than half of the eight million or so Palestinians are considered to be de jure stateless persons.” The state of Israel created these conditions by issuing three laws: the Absentees’ Property Law, the Law of Return (that granted citizenship to Jews from anywhere in the world and denied Palestinians right of return), and the Israel Citizenship Law. These laws “nullified the rights of the displaced non-Jewish population.” Yet, Article 15 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 (to which Israel is a signatory) declares that “everyone has the right to a nationality.” These actions have resulted in devastating conditions for Palestinians both economically and psychologically. (Abbas Shiblak, “Palestine Displacement”). Israel as an occupying power acted in defiance of international law.

From its very founding the state of Israel contained the seeds of apartheid. “The Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel – known as ‘Israel’s Declaration of Independence – does not declare Israel an independent State, nor does it declare Israel a sovereign State, it rather declares Israel a Jewish State ... the Jewish State in the political Zionist sense of the term was to be an apartheid state.” (Uri Davis, Apartheid Israel). Dr. Davis refers particularly to the illegalities committed by Israel against the Palestinians by noting the acts of “ethnic cleansing of the majority of the native indigenous Palestinian Arab people from the territories that came under the control of the Israeli army and razing some 400 Palestinian rural and urban localities to the ground ...” and the plantation of Jewish settlements and subsequent annexation by the State in “violation of both the UN Charter and of international law.” He further stipulates that “Israeli claims to west Jerusalem, Safad or Jaffa ... are as thoroughly invalid as Israeli claims to East Jerusalem, Hebron or Gaza ...” In short, the present state of Israel as proclaimed by its current government does not legally exist and has not been legally sanctioned by the international community.

Anyone with eyes to see traveling from West Jerusalem to East Jerusalem cannot help but grasp the intentional and cynically calculated manner by which the Israeli state destroys the mental and physical well being of the Palestinian people. Herded like cattle, branded with ID cards, deprived of normal conveyance, forced to stand in long lines in intense heat or freezing cold, humiliated by teenagers dressed in uniforms and wielding an arrogant and insulting tongue, the people move back and forth between the squalor of their cramped homes and the splendor of the new Jerusalem, constructed in good measure with American tax payer money. Now, the people of Gaza, after four months of siege, unable to act in their own behalf since the Israeli military controls all access and egress from this sliver of land, one of the most congested in the world, await the inevitable – a slow agonizing journey into malnutrition, disease, depression and death.

Consider, finally, what must be considered the two most glaring acts of torture perpetrated by the Israelis on both the inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza: the Walls that imprison them and the demolitions that eradicate their homes. Under Sharon and Olmert, the Jewish state has moved to systematically incarcerate the entire population, to imprison them collectively against international law and the UN resolutions. An occupying force has responsibility to provide for the welfare of those it occupies; not Israel. It establishes full military control by creating a Wall that confiscates not only land but natural resources from the people, particularly water and farm land, and then prevents them from selling what little remains by locking the gates that give access to the outside world.

Add to the torture inflicted on the people by the Wall, the introduction of a policy of home demolition that has resulted in the displacement of 80% of the Palestinians from what is now called Israel, and the viciousness of Zionist policies to eradicate the Palestinians from their “historic land,” becomes manifest, not to the outside world that never sees this policy in action, but to those who have been forcefully evacuated from their homes and land. This is a form of collective punishment, “either for ‘deterrence’ or for purposes of intimidation.”

Throughout Israel homes continue to be demolished. I’ve had lunch prepared by the displaced family in a home that had been demolished three times, always at night without warning, always with the children clinging to their parents as the bulldozers ram the walls and tear apart the home they were forced to evacuate. This home, built to house a family that could not get a permit to build, a policy that Israel enforces in order to eliminate Palestinians from land Israel wishes to confiscate, rebuilt its home with the help of international groups and peace loving Israelis, until they were finally forced to rebuild their home as a “peace center” to which outside groups were invited so they could witness the consequences of Israel’s demolition policy.

“Israel is the only Western country and Jerusalem the only city that systematically deny permits and demolish houses of a particular national group. These actions, reminiscent of apartheid-era South Africa and the Serbs in Kosovo, clearly violate international covenants of human rights.” (Jeff Halper, “The Message of the Bulldozer”). “The Global Strategy for Shelter to the year 2000, adopted by the UN General Assembly (Resolution 43/181. 20 December 1988), declares that ‘The right to adequate housing is universally recognized by the community of nations. Governments [must] accept a fundamental obligation to protect and improve houses and neighborhoods, rather than damage or destroy them.”

When torture is undertaken to elicit information that might reveal future harm to the torturer, one might excuse the act by denying the reality that no truth comes from the mouth of one in pain; but when torture is done for the sheer delight of witnessing pain and suffering, of delighting in the humiliation inflicted on the weak and helpless, of sick enjoyment derived by seeing children stricken in fear, mothers torn with grief, old women and aged men fallen in the ruins of what had been their life’s work, their fruit trees demolished, their homes leveled, their belongings strewn and broken beneath the crumbled walls, then there is no human excuse for such acts, only the recognition that people who can inflict pain will and will defend their sickness with excuses that have no basis in civilized justice. The Nazis justified their experiments with a scientific rationale that mocked the reality of their evil. We now witness a justification of an equal evil as securing the safety of a population that has broken every known civilized law against another people to protect it from the wrath of those it has devastated. Such is the unmitigated gall of the state without mercy.

Having arrived now at the reality behind the mask Israel and the Bush administration present to the international community and especially the American people, it behooves us to consider solutions to the dilemma that creates the backlash America faces and, indeed, Britain, that has cast its lot with us, as they see their soldiers become the icons to destroy rather than the icons to thank for bringing “freedom” to Iraq and the “new Mid-East.” By yoking itself to the Zionist cause, the eradication of the Palestinians and the theft of their land, the U.S. President and the Congress have ensured a continuing supply of “terrorists” for years to come.

Ironically, the international community has faced this issue over and over again in the UNGA and the UNSC in the 100s of Resolutions it has placed before Israel, yet nothing is done because the U.S. vetoes the voice of outrage there. And in muting the voice of the UN, the U.S. has silenced the voice of the main stream media and hence the voice of the American people. But, as we have noted, the moral conscience of true Jews has spoken on this deceit and presented a plan for change. It appears as well that in America the people have become conscious of the masks worn by their representatives, the righteous face of Tom DeLay, D i c k Cunningham, Denny Hastert, Mark Foley, the whole crew that proclaim their morals before their constituents and then slither behind closed doors to commit their sins.

The Israeli people have yet to show similar signs of an awakening. But the mask has been torn off and fear of exposure, of loss of the Zionist cause, of loss of Judaism’s cohesiveness hangs in the balance. The clarion voices of Uri Davis, Uri Avnery, Gideon Levy, Ilan Pappe, in the midst of the battlefield, calls the Jews for peace to rise once again so that justice can be done to the Palestinians.

Whatever crew of new representatives the American voters put in office this November must not become the lackeys of AIPAC and march to the drum of Kadima. 39% of Americans know the danger of this linkage with evil, with a nation driven by zealots and merciless men. They know the destructive power of yoking this nation to one that is racist and driven by an ideology of destruction, oblivious to international law and human rights. It’s the people who must demand that those they put in office serve them, not themselves, that they protect our Bill of Rights, not dismantle it, that they respect and uphold the values collectively agreed upon in 1948 in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, not join with forces who have demonstrated their desire to ethnically cleanse a people of their land to enlarge their own. Ultimately, it’s the voice of the people in the U.S. that must join forces with the voices of the international community as represented in the General Assembly and force Israel and the U.S. government to acquiesce to justice in favor of genocide.

The American moralist, Nathaniel Hawthorne, in the first half of the 19th century, captured the plight of the innocent Young Goodman Brown as he was led deep into the black forest to witness man’s inhumanity to man, and, while still young, came home a wiser but bitter man. What he witnessed was the hypocrisy of those who proclaim their goodness while they inflict their wickedness, a curse perhaps that inflicts all of human kind and for that reason he lived out the rest of his life in gloom and horror. We too can witness the wickedness that one people inflict on another if we will but open our eyes, see what the TV cameras saw when the veil was lifted in Lebanon, understand the inconceivable wrath that envelopes the Palestinians, done with the blessing of this Bush government in our name, and cry out to the Lord that his soul be avenged on such a nation as this, that justice be done and genocide cease for that alone holds in our time the promise of peace.

False Flag Terror Of The New World Order
Methods used to facilitate staged attacks

The fact that states, intelligence and security agencies engage in false flag staged terror to further political agendas is documented throughout history, but it's too naive to simply characterize every act as an "inside job." Different methods are utilized to facilitate attacks using three different basic templates.

1) Unwitting Dupes

In this case, role players are used to test "security responses" by being told they are part of an exercise for a dummy terrorist attack, an operation that will help the state prevent similar attacks in future. The controllers tell the unwitting dupes that no harm will come to them and that their help will be greatly rewarded.

- London Bombings

The 7/7 bombings are a prime example of the unwitting dupes method. Mohammed Siddique Khan, the alleged ringleader of the 7/7 London bombings, was working for British intelligence agency MI5 as an informant at the time of the attacks. Family and friends described the accused bombers as friendly, westernized and having no interest in politics. Metropolitan police career experts in criminal psychology concluded that the bombers' behavior clearly indicated they did not know they were about to die. In an impossible coincidence, the attack paralleled a security drill that targeted the exact same locations at the exact same time. This is a clear example of where unwitting dupes were told that the operation was a security test and yet were strapped with real bombs and a real attack took place.
2) Provocateurs & Patsies

This is by far the most used method. In this case, radicals with past ties to terrorist groups are hired as informants to infiltrate mainly Islamic political groups and encourage them to carry out acts of terror. In almost every case, the materials required to carry out the attack are directly provided by intelligence agencies or via the hired provocateur. Agent provocateurs also take the guise of undercover government agents, who radicalize otherwise harmless groups over a long period of time and provide financial and material support and safe passage for the group to carry out the attack.

- 1993 WTC Bombing

The first World Trade Center bombing was provocateured by the government. In 1993 the FBI planted their informant, Emad A. Salem, within a radical Arab group in New York led by Ramzi Yousef. Salem was ordered to encourage the group to carry out a bombing targeting the World Trade Center's twin towers. Under the illusion that the project was a sting operation, Salem asked the FBI for harmless dummy explosives which he would use to assemble the bomb and then pass on to the group. At this point the FBI cut Salem out of the loop and provided the group with real explosives, leading to the attack on February 26 that killed six and injured over a thousand. The FBI's failure to prevent the bombing was reported on by the New York Times in October 1993.


3) Complete Complicity

Acts of complete complicity, where the state controls and dictates the attack every step of the way, are only used for major bellwether terrorist atrocities with clearly defined and planned outcomes. Pre-arranged patsies are set-up to take the fall for the attack, but they play very little or no role whatsoever in actually carrying out the attack. 9/11 is the obvious example, but another major case where this method was first used dates back to the 1950's.

- Bombing Campaign Against Mossadegh's Iran

Kermit Roosevelt admitted on NPR radio that in 1953 the CIA and British intelligence carried out a wave of bombings and shootings in Iran to overthrow the democratically elected Premier following Mossadegh's declaration that he would nationalize foreign oil holdings. He then went on to brag about how they subsequently blamed the bombings on Mossadegh himself. The CIA's own account of the overthrow, reported on by the New York Times in April 2000, states that the agency "directed a campaign of bombings" as part of the coup d’état.

US Government Biological Weapons Legislator Says 2001 Anthrax Attacks Part Of Government Bio-warfare Program
Expert says FBI covered up the plot to attack Congress which may have been perpetrated by the same people who carried out the 9/11 attacks

The real culprits behind the 2001 anthrax attack on Congress were most likely US government scientists at the army's Ft. Detrick, MD., bioterrorism lab according to a former government biological weapons legislator and University of Illinois Professor.

Dr Franics A. Boyle says the FBI covered up these facts and has also quite clearly stated that he doubts the official government story that 19 arabs with boxcutters perpetrated the attacks of 9/11.

Boyle is a leading American professor, practitioner and advocate of international law. He was responsible for drafting the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989, the American implementing legislation for the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention. He served on the Board of Directors of Amnesty International (1988-1992), and represented Bosnia- Herzegovina at the World Court. Professor Boyle teaches international law at the University of Illinois, Champaign. He holds a Doctor of Law Magna *BadWord* Laude as well as a Ph.D. in Political Science, both from Harvard University.

"I believe the FBI knows exactly who was behind these terrorist anthrax attacks upon the United States Congress in the Fall of 2001, and that the culprits were US government-related scientists involved in a criminal US government bio-warfare program," Boyle says in his new book Biowarfare and Terrorism.



Only a "handful" of scientists had the means to carry out the attack, yet the FBI ordered the destruction of the anthrax culture collection at Ames, IA., from which the Ft. Detrick lab got its pathogens. Boyle states that only top level scientists with access to "moonsuits" that enabled them to safely process and manufacture super-weapons-grade anthrax could have carried out the attacks.

"The trail of genetic evidence would have led directly back to a secret but officially-sponsored US government biowarfare program that was illegal and criminal" , Boyle said. However, impartial scientists were not allowed to perform genetic reconstruction of the anthrax found in letters mailed to Senators Daschle (D-S.D.) and Patrick Leahy, (D -Vt.) in late 2001.

We have previously exposed how leading members of the Bush administration and White House staff were on the anthrax-treating antibiotic Cipro up to six weeks before the attacks occurred. It is also documented that the anthrax strain used was military grade. This was widely reported in 2002 in publications such as the New Scientist. However, this fact has recently been totally changed with the FBI now suggesting that common anthrax, not military grade anthrax was used.

The whole thing "appears to be a cover-up orchestrated by the FBI." according to Dr Boyle.

Boyle goes on to inquire, "Could the real culprits behind the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, and the immediately following terrorist anthrax attacks upon Congress ultimately prove to be the same people? Could it truly be coincidental that two of the primary intended victims of the terrorist anthrax attacks - Senators Daschle and Leahy - were holding up the speedy passage of the pre-planned USA Patriot Act ... an act which provided the federal government with unprecedented powers in relation to US citizens and institutions?"

Clearly Dr Boyle has a hard time believing what the government says happened on 9/11.

The anthrax attacks cleverly (or coincidentally if you choose to believe) coincided with the terrorist atrocities and sent Congress into shut down for days. Immediately after re-convening the liberty smashing PATRIOT Act was passed without even being read by members.

In addition, the Bush administration moved to begin planning a major $10 billion expansion of the bioweapons labs at Fort Detrick. Residents in the area have fiercely campaigned against the expansion.

In a forward to Boyle's book, Dr. Jonathan King, Professor of Molecular Biology at M.I.T. and a founder of the Council for Responsible Genetics, says the government's "growing bioterror programs represent a significant emerging danger to our own population."



Those who cannot fathom how or why the government could kill almost 3000 citizens, including police and firefighters, on 9/11 need look no further than the anthrax attacks, which provide solid proof that criminal elements within the structure of authority are in operation and don't give a damn about who they kill to achieve their goals of social control.

There are countless examples of the US government having illegally tested and used bio-weapons on its own citizens. The Tuskegee Syphilis Study, The Program F fluoride study, Project SHAD which we are now learning used live toxins and chemical poisons on American servicemen on American soil, spraying clouds of bacteria over San Francisco, releasing toxic gases into the New York subway, holding open-air biological and chemical weapons tests in at least four states in the 1960s, the list goes on.

The war that Western powers--primarily US, Israel and Britain--began against the Islamic world after September 11, 2001, is about to enter a new more dangerous phase as their early plans for 'changing the map of the Middle East' have begun to unravel with unintended consequences.

Codenamed 'the war against terror,' the imperialist war against the Middle East was fueled primarily by US and Israeli ambitions. Britain's participation is mostly a sideshow. US and Israel have convergent aims in the region. The US seeks to deepen its control over the region's oil. Israel wants to create regional conditions that will allow it to complete the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

As a first step, both objectives would be served by removing four regimes--in Iran, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan--that still resisted US and Israeli ambitions in the region. Once these regimes had been removed, the US and Israel would carry the war into Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, to dismember them into smaller, weaker client states.

Iraq and Afghanistan were chosen as the first targets--the easy points of entry into the war. They had been ravaged by years of war, weakened by internal divisions, and, in the case of Iraq, hollowed out by sanctions. It was believed that occupation would be easy. With friendly regimes in power, the US could start working on regime change in Iran and Syria.

Occupation was indeed a cake walk. But little else has been easy. The Sunni-led insurgency that began within weeks of the fall of Baghdad has succeeded in derailing US efforts to stabilize Iraq. Indeed, as Iraq has moved closer to a civil war over the past few months, pressures within the US are mounting for an American pull out. In Afghanistan too, after a period of initial stability, a Taliban resurgence--operating from liberated areas in neighboring Pakistan--now threatens NATO forces through much of eastern and southern Afghanistan.

In the meanwhile, the US-led war against the region has changed the map of the Middle East, but in unsettling ways. Not only has Iran gained deep influence over Iraq and Afghanistan, it can leverage this influence to raise steeply the cost of the US occupation in both countries. In the meanwhile, with help from Russia and China, Iran has built a military capability that can threaten US clients on the Arabian peninsula, shut off the Hormuz Straits to shipping, and launch missiles that can reach Israel. In addition, last summer, Hizbullah demonstrated a new form of guerilla war--with low-tech rockets, anti-tank weapons, and sophisticated intelligence gathering--that neutralized a determined Israeli offensive.

The Iraq Study Group has described the situation in Iraq "grave and deteriorating," and recommended a quick drawdown of US forces. It is unlikely that the President will take that advice. Instead, the US, Israel and Britain have for some time been working on an alternative plan when it appeared that their initial plans were being derailed. The US, Israel and Britain are now working to incite a civil war between Sunnis and Shias across the Middle East. As Jonathan Cook puts it, taking a leaf from Israeli experience in the West Bank and Gaza, they expect to create "controlled chaos" in the entire Islamic world.

The battle lines in this civil war have been drawn. The principal American-Israeli surrogates in this 'Islamic civil war' showed their colors last July when Israel launched devastating air attacks against Lebanese civilian targets in response to the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hizbullah. Almost instantly, Cairo, Riyadh and Amman condemned the Hizbullah action. On the opposite side there is the crescent of resurgent Shia power stretching from Lebanon, through Syria and Iraq, into Iran.

During his recent meetings with Israeli leaders and Sunni Arab potentates, according to a headline in NY Times, British prime minister Tony Blair was working to lay the groundwork for an "alliance against extremism." His plan is to erect an 'arc of moderation' against the Shia Crescent, with Iran as the principal "strategic threat" to Western imperial ambitions.

Iraq is already the theater of this 'Islamic civil war.' Last July, one of the aims of the Israeli destruction of Lebanon's civilian infrastructure was to spread this sectarian war to Lebanon. That gambit failed miserably. Now Saudi Arabia is threatening to expand its support for Sunni insurgents in Iraq and destabililize Iran by raising its oil production. More ominously, some of its Wahhabi clerical allies are trying to rouse both Arab fears of Persian domination and Sunni concerns about the ascendancy of the 'heretical' Shias.

The determining factor in this war will be the Sunni populations under the thumbs of the Arab potentates. It is doubtful if the anti-Persian and anti-Shia rhetoric of the Arab potentates will succeed in swinging them around to support governments they have long hated, especially now as their alliance with Israel becomes overt. There is also the risk that in fuelling the Sunni insurgency in Iraq, the Saudis will strengthen al-Qaida and their allies who are sworn to bring down the US-friendly Arab potentates. Moreover, if there is a real war in the region, the pseudo Arab states in the Gulf have no fighting ability they can bring to this conflict. In that event, does the US have the forces to occupy Iraq and also defend its Arab clients in the Gulf?

Paraphrasing prime minister Tony Blair, the NY Times writes, " the fate of the Middle East, ''for good or ill,'' would be felt around the world." It is unlikely that adding an 'Islamic civil war' to the dynamics of the region will work for the 'good' of the US, Israel or Britain.

The Myth Of The Palestinian Suicide Bomber!



While the Israeli government has turned the Gaza strip and West Bank regions of Palestine into virtual prison camps, there is one section of the Palestinian community that appears to enjoy unhindered freedom of movement and a blind eye form the Israeli camps guards: "suicide bombers".

Today, one of these rare breed allegedly managed to get all the way down to the southern tip of Israel, to the Red Sea resort town of Eilat.



At 9.45 this morning (Eilat time), we are told that a "Palestinian suicide
bomber" detonated his explosives in a small bakery, killing three people and himself. As with every other "suicide bombing" attributed to Palestinians over the past 6 years, we are forced to rely only on the claims of Israeli state security forces that each bombing was indeed a "suicide" attack. Such claims are almost always made within minutes of the event, subsequently propagating virus-like around the world's news agencies so that, by the time the world public gets wind of the news, it is already a closed case. There is however much to be gained from looking at the details of these alleged suicide bombings, because when we do, problems with the story invariably arise, not to mention uncomfortable questions.



In this case, the first such problem is that of authorship of the attack.
Again as was the case in many previous bombings, exactly who was responsible is not very clear.



First we read:

A deadly suicide attack has struck the Israeli Red Sea town of Eilat. At
least three people have been killed in a bombing inside a bakery. This is
the first suicide attack in Israel since April, and the first ever in Eilat,
a popular tourist resort. Palestinian militant groups immediately claimed
responsibility.


Then

Reuters informs us:

Three Palestinian militant groups claimed responsibility for a suicide
bombing on Monday that killed three people in Israel's Red Sea resort of
Eilat.

Islamic Jihad, al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades -- part of
President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction -- and the previously unknown
"Army of Believers" each said it carried out the attack, the first
Palestinian bombing in Israel since April.







But then:

The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and a previously unknown
group calling itself the "Army of Believers" say they carried out the
attack. And an Islamic Jihad spokesman Khader Habib had this comment:
"We don't have any information that our movement is responsible. But anyway this is part of our right to resist occupation. It's a normal reaction against acts of Israeli occupation on our people which never stop," he said.




And:

Fatah spokesman Ahmad Abdul Rahman condemned the violence, saying, "We are against any operation that targets civilians, Israelis or Palestinians."






So, if both the leader of Fatah and the spokesman for Islamic Jihad, the
militant wing of Fatah that is alleged to have carried out the attack, both say that they either knew nothing about the attack or are utterly against such attacks, who in the hell is carrying them out? And more to the point, who do they think they are representing by carrying out such bombings? The entire Palestinian people give their support to one of just two groups, either Fatah or Hamas, yet it seems that whoever carried out today's attack is either unknown to or unaffiliated with both!

That just leaves us with the third potential candidate, the mysterious (and
ubiquitous in "Islamic terror attacks) "previously unknown group". You may remember that the London bombings were originally claimed by the comically named "Secret Group of Al-Qaeda in Europe", also a "previously
unknown group". In fact, these previously unknown groups have sprung up on many occasions to claim responsiblity for attacks that no self-respecting and intelligent Arab group would ever want to be associated with. For example:

Then there was the murder of anti-Syrian Lebanese journalist and
politician Gibran Tueni in December 2005 by the previously unknown group 'Strugglers for the Unity and Freedom of the Levant'



In the Occupied Palestinian Territories we have been treated to, the
previously unknown group Army of Islam, who claimed responsibility for the unbelieveable (literally) kidnapping of Corporal Shalit last summer, an event that was used by Israel

to justify another round of slaughter of Palestinians.



Then there was the previously unknown group "Holy Jihad Brigades" who abducted two Fox News journalists in Gaza and made the outlandish demand the release of all Muslims imprisoned by the United States.



Not forgetting the previously unknown group "Lions of Monotheism" that
claimed responsibility for attacking two churches Friday night in West
Bank city of Nablus in September 2006.



Not to mention the previously unknown "Just Swords of Islam" which claimed credit last December for throwing acid in the face of an "immodestly dressed" women in Gaza City. A nice bit of PR
work for the Palestinians indeed.



Even in Iran, a previously unknown group called 'Arab Struggle Movement for Liberating Ahvaz' claimed responsibility for a bombing that killed 8 Iranians in 2005








To name but a few.

What do all of these attacks have in common? They demonise Arabs as crazed killers. Whose general agenda does that serve? Israel's.



Of course, there remains the fact that someone claiming to be members of "Islamic Jihad" claimed responsibility for the bombing, heck, they even took to the streets with a picture of the bomber:

Islamic Who?




The question that must be asked here is: when is a Palestinian terrorist not a Palestinian terrorist? Answer: When he's a "musta'ribeen":









Israel's control of and entrenchment in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, its
continual attempts to stamp out Palestinian resistance to the occupation at
any cost, relies heavily on intelligence gathered by Shabak, the 5,000-strong Internal General Security Service of Israel, whose
motto is "Defender who shall not be seen".

With a cadre of well-trained, Arabic-speaking Israeli informants who are indistinguishable physically from the Palestinian population, Shabak has little problem gathering intelligence on a people whose every movement is regulated by hundreds of check points and by total Israeli control on their borders. These infiltrators prey on Arab innate hospitality and friendliness. The Palestinians call them "musta'ribeen", i.e., "those who appear to be Arabs".
Palestinians are not surprised when someone, somewhere comes up to them and says: Got you!





neither are they surprised when they hear that their brother or father has
gone off with some "previously unknown group" to become a "martyr".



Coming at this precise time, today's attack can also be clearly linked to
certain "concessions" that Israel has recently made (and will now be revoked) to the Palestinians:

Meanwhile, the Almagor Terror Victims Association released a statement
calling on Olmert to "reverse the promise made to Egypt to release
terrorists who were caught infiltrating Israel with weapons and cease all
negotiations on the release of terrorists.

Right-wing Knesset Member Arieh Eldad said he hoped the attack would
"bring sanity back to all those who call for negotiating with Hamas and
strengthening [Palestinian President Mahmoud] Abbas."





And of course, the blood-thirsty Israeli defence Minister Amir Peretz wasted not time in

sharpening his sword:

Israeli leaders said the bombing jeopardized a two-month truce in Gaza.

His defense minister, Amir Peretz, convened an emergency meeting of top security officials. "This is a grave incident, it's an escalation and we
shall treat it as such," Peretz said.





and drooling at the prospect of raining more death on the beleaguered people of the Gaza strip:

"I've talked with the prime minister and we've decided to act immediately," Peretz said. "There are several assumptions ? it is clear the perpetrator is probably a resident of the Gaza Strip. An assessment will be held in an hour."


Most important of all however, is the fact that the Eilat blast occurred four
days before the so-called Quartet of Middle East mediators was to meet in
Washington as part of a bid to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
Coincidence?



So the result of today's bombing is clear - another opportunity for Israeli
politicians to pitch the Palestinians as the agressors and themselves as the defenders while continuing their butchery of Palestinian civilians - but what about the details of the attack itself:



Well, let's start with the alleged bomber's route(s), sadly, this is far from
clear, or logical.





According to Israeli police said the bomber entered Egypt from Gaza and then made his way through the Sinai peninsula to the porous Egyptian-Israeli border north of Eilat, where he caught a ride with an Israeli motorist who drove him into the city.



However, an Islamic Jihad spokesmen declined to say how the bomber left Gaza (because he had no idea because, as already noted, another Islamic Jihad spokesman said "we don't have any information that our movement is responsible") although he insisted it was not through Gaza's often-closed Rafah crossing into Egypt - Gazans' only gateway to the outside world. This would of course, make sense because it is impossible for ANY Palestinian to get out of Gaza without a permit and without the Israelis knowing about it. Think Nazi Germany here, "papers please". Furthermore, the IDF

stated that they had recently significantly boosted security along the
Israel-Egypt border, forcing even the IDF to consider the possibility that the alleged bomber left Gaza with Israel's permission.



At the same time, another member of Islamic Jihad initially said that the
bomber came from the West Bank, only to later claim that the bomber had crossed into Israel from neighboring Jordan. In response to this, the Jordanians stated that "the checks in all governmental institutions related to the case, as well as in all border checkpoints, revealed that he had never entered and stayed in Jordan."



The Israeli army did not however rule out the possibility that the alleged
bomber did infiltrate Israel by digging a tunnel under the Gaza border with Egypt much like the "Palestinian" militants who staged the daring (and impossible) raid on the Israeli outpost last summer when Corporal Shalit was captured. (For the uninitiated, this was a staged attack by Israeli agents).
There is one very good reason for the Israelis to push the Gaza crossing theory:
If it is found that the "bomber" did leave through the Rafah crossing, a
delicate, U.S-brokered arrangement involving Palestinian security forces and European monitors could be in jeopardy. Yes indeed, if the alleged bomber crossed out of Gaza, then that means that the "Palestinian terrorists" must be in cahoots with the EU monitors on the border crossings! You see! They're all in it together! Anti-Semites the lot of them! Unfortunately, it was the Egyptians' turn to spoil the party when a spokesman

stated that " there is no way that the bomber or explosives came through the Sinai Peninsula."



But just for fun, let's go with the Israeli army's claim and assume that the
alleged bomber did somehow manage to tunnel under the Gaza sand and into Egypt;
we must then explain how he managed to travel the 150 miles south across the Sinai desert to Eilat. As you might imagine, security in the Sinai is very high, with the average traveller being forced to pass through about a dozen checkpoints - both Egyptian and United Nations. Only a few roads cross the desert, and local residents use either 4-wheel drive trucks or the more traditional camel as transportation. So is this what we are looking at?

Moving along. Once the alleged bomber got close to Eilat, our would-be bomber decided to try and hitch a ride, tired as he was from the long camel ride. Okay, now prepare yourself; guess who just happened to stop by and pick him up?

Eilat Resident Yossi Woltinski, a Lieutenant Colonel in the IDF reserves, reported Monday that he picked up the terrorist who bombed an
Eilat bakery Monday morning. Woltinski was on his way to work when he picked up the terrorist, who was hitchhiking his way to downtown Eilat.

Woltinski said he quickly became suspicious of the young man, who wore a red coat and did not talk. After deliberately driving to a sparsely
populated area, Woltinski told the man to get out of the car. He then called the police and gave them a detailed description of the man.





What are the odds, eh?



From this point on, details are sketchy.

Witnesses said the bomber stood out because he wore a long winter coat
on a warm, sunny day when he struck the small bakery in a residential
neighborhood. Police said the bomb was in a bag he was carrying rather than an explosives belt often used in past suicide attacks.

"I thought to myself, 'What's that idiot dressed like that for?' A couple
of seconds later I heard a massive explosion," Benny Mazgini, 45, told
Israel Radio





With the mention that the suspect stood out because he was wearing a heavy coat on hot day, we are immediately reminded of the assassination by British police of in 2005 of Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes on the London Underground. British police justified the state-ordered murder, (by way of 7 bullets to the head at point blank range), by claiming that de Menezes was wearing a "thick coat" on a summer's day, evidence, as far as British police are concerned, of a potential "suicide bomber". The only problem was that, it was later revealed that British police had deliberately lied, that de Menezes was in fact wearing a light denim jacket.



Apparently what Mazgini saw was the man walking towards the Bakery and then a few seconds later, (when he was in the bakery supposedly) heard an explosion:

Residents of the neighborhood reported a violent blast that shook the
windows off nearby buildings. Many reported seeing smoke rising from the area of the attack.



Initially,
police believed that the explosion was caused by a gas leak. Only later did they decide it was a "suicide bomber".

Interestingly enough, the only witness cited by papers was the above
mentioned Benny Mazgini. It turns out that Mazgini is something of a public figure in the Eilat area, and perhaps beyond, being a

member (as of Dec 2004) of the Central Committee of Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party (and who knows what else).

Is Mazgini a credible witness? Why was the "bomber" wearing a thick coat, when Israeli police later said that the "bomber" was not wearing a "bomb belt" (thus negating the need for a thick coat to cover it up) but was in fact carrying a bomb in a bag. There is also the problem of video footage that is alleged to show "bomber's" last moments. The footage, taken from a CCTV camera inside an adjoining shop, shows a man walking on the street outside wearing what Ynet news states is a red shirt, not a thick overcoat.

As with every other alleged Palestinian "suicide bombing", inconsistencies
and contradictions abound.



What is clear is that in order to accept the claim that this was the work of
a "suicide bomber", we must dispense with all critical judgment and think in simplistic black and white terms. Palestinians = terrorists. Israelis = peace keepers and defenders. We are being asked to believe, without question, the claims of the Israeli security forces, organisations that are founded on the 'principles' of deception and subterfuge.



What is beyond doubt is that it would be very easy for Israeli intelligence
to stage a fake "suicide bombing". A bomb could be concealed in the chosen location, and when the chosen patsy enters or approaches, the bomb is detonated, with Israeli security forces quickly arriving on the scene to declare the cause and tie up any loose ends. What the world public must decide is if a section of the Israeli government possesses the political will to carry out such attacks.
Basically, would our political leaders "do that". To answer that question, all that is required is a little reading on the details of Western state
counter-insurgency tactics over the past 50 years. Those who do so, even the most skeptical, find it impossible to deny the FACT that Western governments have, on many occasions and in some cases as a matter of ongoing policy, sacrificed the lives of innocent civilians in order to further political goals.



Most people have by now been sufficiently programmed to believe that "Islamic terrorists" wish to destroy Israel, but are reluctant to constate that Israel would never have attained its dominant position in the Middle East without an ongoing "terrorist threat" to its existence. Israel needs terrorism.




The problem of course is that a a real war with a real threat is not
desirable because of the unpredictability of the outcome. So, in the case of Israel, when it has utterly destroyed the real threat, a more manageable and predictable 'homegrown' threat must be maintained. The Israeli government, with its complete control of the lives of not only the Palestinian people but also that of the Israeli people, has all of the means to stage-manage the no-longer-existent "Palestinian terrorist threat to its existence", and it does so with great skill, not least because of the significant control that is exerted over the mainstream media. All these topics are subject to review by Israel's chief military censor,
who has - in her own words - "extraordinary power."
She can silence a broadcaster, block information and put journalists in
jail.

Over the past 6 years, over 500 Israeli citizens have been killed in about
130 "Palestinian suicide bombings". It is up to each individual to decide how many of those alleged suicide bombings were actually carried out by real Palestinian suicide bombers.

After reading The Logic of Suicide Terrorism--It's the Occupation, Not the Fundamentalism by Robert Pape, the main idea that we come away with is that suicide bombers are real, very real indeed. Though we were promised a revelation of the logic, these questions remain:

If the purpose of a suicide-terrorist attack is not to die, but to kill and to inflict the maximum number of casualties on the target society, why do they die?

If the purpose of the suicide bomber is to end the occupation of his country, why is the suicide tactic not as old as war and territorial occupation itself?

If the purpose of the suicide bomber is to end the occupation of his country and to inflict the maximum number of casualties on the target society why are the targets so disparate and scattered, without a clear relation to the occupation?

Why are suicide bombings publicized before any proof is brought by investigation?

For me these questions underline the illogical nature of suicide bombings. I believe to find logic you have to see the suicide bomber as a fabrication of the Zionists for their own purposes:

To demonize Islam

To make Muslims look stupid, fanatical, and murderous.

To create worldwide terrorism that they can claim has nothing to do with Israel, but everything to do with Islam.

To attack those who think themselves to be allies, but are not, e.g. America, Spain, Britain.

To shift the blame for any bombing Zionists perpetrate onto the Muslims, simply by calling it a suicide bombing.

To control public opinion in favor of Israel as the most grieved victim of terrorism.

To justify apartheid in Israel.

To justify war in the Middle East with the spoils of war accruing to themselves, while the costs are borne by their "allies".

So it's not the fundamentalism, it's not the occupation, it's not suicide, it's not a guerilla tactic, it's the timeless strategy of the Jews working to advantage themselves on their journey toward dominion.

Israel Uses the Myth as a Cover to Attack "Allies"

[Israel uses the suicide bomber myth as a cover] to attack those who think themselves to be allies, but are not, e.g. America, Spain, Britain.

In 1983 Israel invaded and occupied Lebanon. The US and France had peacekeeping forces in place near the Beirut airport. The US had a naval presence off the coast. Early one Sunday morning, simultaneously, both the French and American Marine barracks were bombed. The story was that a truck had come at high speed through a gate and exploded, killing hundreds of Marines. As the two bombings were simultaneous one wonders why so little is said about the French barracks especially if we are to think there were simultaneous "truck bombs"; it would have been a neat trick.

Suicide was not mentioned in the original reports, in 1983, but in the twentieth anniversary reports the bombing of the US Marine barracks was said to have been done by a "suicide bomber", and elsewhere the words "terrorist suicide bombing" were used. So by 2003 a simple bombing had become a suicide bombing. I think that change is significant.

Using Professor Pape's logic of suicide terrorism applied to the situation in Lebanon we should wonder why the occupying Israeli force was not targeted rather than the French and Americans who were on the periphery as peacekeepers. Just because a target is handy does not make it strategically worthwhile. If the planning was so tight that simultaneous truck bombs could hit these two marginal targets, why not use that expertise and tonnage to hit the one perfect target?

The Israelis had prior knowledge of a truck being outfitted to carry a very large bomb but did not warn the Americans.(déjà vu) This was reported by Mossad operative, Victor Ostrovsky in his book By Way of Deception. The odd thing about this story is not that the Israelis neglected to warn the Americans, but that they could even imagine that the Americans would be the target rather than themselves. Why would they think that? The Israelis use the deception of admitting some knowledge as a way of deflecting suspicion away from themselves as perpetrators. In this case the admission of prior knowledge reveals more than disregard, it reveals an inconsistency that makes me believe they were the bombers.

Israel's Suicide Bomber Myth is an Organic Process With Three Components: Reality, Fantasy and Purpose

[KingKangaroo:] If Israel did invent the suicide bomb, why did they wait so long to use the tactic at home?

The invention of a myth does not happen in a meeting of the Knesset, nor does it come out of the imagination of one person or a think tank. It is an organic process that is a mix of reality, fantasy, and purpose.

A good example of this organic process is the example I gave earlier of the bombings in 1983 of the US and French military barracks at the Beirut airport. I believe it was Israel that carried out the attacks. The Israelis did not want the US and France to intermeddle in Israel's attack on the Palestinians who had fled to Lebanon. The US and France were their allies, so an attack could not be seen to come from the Israelis. The bombing was done under the pretense that two truck bombs were detonated simultaneously as they ran into the barracks. Of course the trucks, if there were any, were demolished, and the drivers, if there were any, were blown up. The story of who did the bombing was in the hands of the Israelis who fabricated the whole thing to cover themselves.

So the Israelis had the purpose to make their meddlesome allies leave. The reality was the bombing, and the fantasy was the fabrication that hid the truth. Today this would be called a "suicide bombing" in 1983 it was not. You can see that it is only the characterization that has changed, not the action.

I do not know the event that marks the beginning of the suicide bomber myth. Bombings can be made suicidal retroactively, making it even more difficult to pinpoint its beginnings. One thing I can say with confidence is that it was not an actual suicide that prompted the new formula, but almost serendipitously the Israelis found the suicide twist to their terrorism myth to be very useful..

The primary use of the suicide bomber myth is to demonize the Palestinians. Israel had fought three successful wars against the inhabitants of Palestine in 1948, 1967, and 1973. The Palestinians had been disarmed, dispossessed, and forced into refugee camps in Gaza, Jordan, and the West Bank. After 1973 what the Israelis had on their hands was akin to Indian Reservations in the US, but with millions of people in the small territory. This did not satisfy the Israelis who wanted the whole lot to move into neighboring countries leaving Israel to the Israelis.

The injustice and inequality of this situation was too obvious for the Israelis to pursue their goals without condemnation by the world. It was pathetic to listen to Israelis whine about being threatened by the awful Palestinians who wanted to "push Jews into the sea". It was necessary to make these rag-tag Palestinians look menacing, dangerous, and fanatical to justify Israel's continued expansion and relentless punishment of these defeated people.

Blaming the Palestinians for terrorist actions, like the murder of the Israeli Olympic athletes at Munich, was Israel's original ploy, but ambitious actions like that were costly and difficult. Gradually the elaborate terrorism of Abu Nidal gave way to the modest but equally effective suicide bomber. The purpose of making the Palestinians look wantonly murderous, unpredictable and fanatical is realized by this myth, justifying all manner of retribution and Israel's continued expansion. This ogranic process goes on. As we speak, the myth of the Palestinian suicide bomber is taking on its new form in London; as it has in Madrid, Kenya, Tanzania, New York and other farflung places -wherever the Jews find it useful.

The Fairy Tale Blocks Serious Questions

The moment people stop believing in the suicide bomber fairy tale, the sooner they'll start to ask some serious questions.

Remember how we all used to believe the holocaust tales? There are all those pictures, all that testimony, all those books written, all those memorials built. It is in textbooks and encyclopedias. It is taught in school.

Can't we handle the possiblity that the "Islamic fundamentalist, suicide bomber" may also be a lie? We should look at everything with the same skepticism we developed in dealing with the holocaust myth, especially those things that come from the same source.

Israel is Attacking Muslims AND the West--The Two Should be Allies Against Israel

It is the modus operandi of the Jews to stand aside while their enemies fight one another. It is well known that the Jews consider Muslims their enemy, but most white people in the world do not see themselves as the enemy of the Jews, when in fact they are. Why are we in Iraq? Is that really our battle?

A comparison can be made of WW I and II in which Europe was invited to self-destruct. Where were the Jews in those fights that benefited them beyond all others? Why is it that the Jewish banking interests fund both sides of a conflict? They come out of these terrible wars richer and more powerful while the power of the white world was diminished.

After the Russian Revolution and WW I, Jewish/Communism was triumphant and ready to conquer Europe. All of Europe had been weakened by WW I. The threat of Communism called for an alliance of Europe against the onslaught. It was not to be because Jewish influence on Churchill and Roosevelt made impossible the only sensible alliance of all Europe against Stalin.

Now the white world is being told that our enemy is Islam. Watch out.

Treason and the Myth

The Intifada is Real and Justified, Not to Confuse with the Suicide Bomber Fable

Of course the Palestinian resistance is real and thoroughly justified. It is the fabricated "suicide bomber" that I seek to discredit. The myth is used to make the Palestinians and Muslims look stupid and effete. It is also the method by which they are set up as patsies for every act of terrorism Israel chooses. The forty foot high security wall replete with guard towers was justified by the myth of the "suicide bomber". Don't confuse this cheap fable with the true courage of real people.

It is Very Hard and Rare to Overcome Survival Instinct and Commit Suicide

Muslims, and sacrificial others. Part of what makes the "suicide bomber" preposterous is that no important Jewish target has ever been hit.

Suicide is absolutely unnatural; it is an aberration in creatures whose instinct is to survive. It is not easy to override that instinct. It is so contrary to instinct that stories of suicide for a cause are few and always make us marvel: the samurai who falls on his sword as penance for a loss in battle, the kamikaze pilot who knows he goes to certain death, the Roman who prefers death by his own hand to the humiliation of being killed by his enemies. There have been Christian and Buddhist martyrs who use suicide as a demonstration of belief and/or protest. All these are distinct from the unwilling martyrdom of dying in conflict.

The fact that suicide for a cause is so exceptional in our history is one thing that makes me question the burgeoning phenomenon of the "Muslim suicide bomber". The Japanese Kamikaze pilot is understandable as a cultural phenomenon with roots in the concept of the samurai, but again, this is so exceptional that we look in awe on those whose sense of duty is so strong. Can we find a similar antecedent for this peculiar type of martyrdom among Muslims in these last fourteen centuries, keeping in mind the difference between dying in battle and an intentional suicide? I don't think so.

Are there any other instances of intentional martyrdom in all our history that have been met with such cruel derision and mockery as the "Muslim suicide bomber" of our time? Doesn't such a reaction by itself make this case extraordinary?

That suicide for a cause is anti-instinctual, exceedingly rare, and when found, traceable to its cultural antecedents, makes me very skeptical that hundreds, perhaps thousands, of such cases would spring forth quite suddenly in a people, no matter what the provocation.

Professor Pape tries to avoid the question of religion in his article because he wants us to think that the occupation of territory in the Middle East is sufficient to cause this phenomenon. It cannot be. And Gabor would like to make the case for Islam as the sufficient cause of suicide bombing, and that cannot be either, for many of those purported to be suicides are not religious.

As for the Palestinian family whose son or daughter is said to have been a suicide bomber, are they not very much like families everywhere whose children die in battle? They desperately want to see that the death meant something, had some good in it. That is not hard to understand. Also familiar to all are the leaders who praise the dead, speaking of their heroism. It keeps up morale.

Neither of us has access to evidence for or against suicide bombings and cannot hope to prove anything one way or the other. What I have tried to do is look at it historically, psychologically, and rationally. I stand by my assertion that the "Muslim suicide bomber" is a myth. As you said about the Muslims, "They don't deny the suicide bombers, they are trying to explain it." I am trying to explain it too, it needs a lot of explaining.

The Vulgar 72 Virgin Myth [Has No Basis in Islam]

How many times have you heard an American bring up the idea that suicide bombers are motivated by the thought of 72 virgins waiting for them in heaven? What audacious and gratutitous cruelty, how heartless, how vulgar. Is that what they would like to say to the parents of a son or daughter who has been killed in the struggle against the Zionists? And how much more horrible is it to think that they were not suicides but homicides? Americans should keep their smutty fantasies to themselves.

The Suicide Bomber Never Really Hurts the Enemy

[grizzle:] No important Jewish target has ever been hit. Kind of like the IRA isn't gunning for the queen and family.

Not quite. Take the example that is in this morning's news:

A suicide bomber blew himself up among a group of teens near a shopping mall in the seaside city of Netanya on Tuesday, killing himself and two others in the second such attack since a truce was declared five months ago. ...The blast went off shortly before 7 p.m. near the Sharon Mall in Netanya. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated the bomber blew himself up among a group of teenagers crossing a busy intersection.

Unidentified teenagers crossing a street is not an important Jewish target. But this is typical for bombings in Israel. The victims are often not even Israelis, let alone important Israelis. Reports of victims and damage are deliberately vague, merely giving an impression, not facts or pictures. Asian and South American workers, other Palestinians, and what seems to be a favorite target - Russian immigrants are the usual victims.

After thinking carefully about suicide as a tactic and putting yourself in the place of a person contemplating this ultimate sacrifice ­ how would you choose a target to make your death worthwhile - useful to force an end to the occupation of your country? Would you blow yourself up in a shopping mall toy store, the entrance to a super market, a bus stop, near a hitchhiking post, in a restaurant frequented by foreigners, outside a shopping mall? It may not be possible to get through the security to hit the Knesset while in session, but surely you could come up with something better than a mall toy store.

The pathetic nature of the targets reinforces the idea that Muslims are stupid. But for me it reinforces the doubt that Muslims are suicide bombers.

The Suicide Hijacker--Similar Myth

[grizzle:] Palestinian vs Israeli is not 9/11 or 7/7. I doubt Muslims were involved in the latter two, unless they were the non-religious CIA shill type.

I do not believe that Muslims were involved in 9/11, but wasn't the notion of the suicide bomber the direct antecedent of the suicide hijacker? I believe there were no hijackers involved in 9/11. But for all those who buy the hijacker scenario the preparation they have been given to believe that Muslims have no qualms about suicide leads directly to the conclusion that Muslims must be the culprits.

Palestinian vs. Israeli is not 9/11, 7/7, 3/11, USS Cole, Nairobi, Kenya and Tanzania embassy bombings, the shoebomber, Beslan school, suicide bombings in Iraq, etc. If they are not Palestinian vs. Israeli, perhaps the Israeli part of the equation is what should be examined. The Israelis invented and perpetuate this myth, complete with the bombed-out bus tour of Europe and the US. It is not hard for them to come up with these tales, just think for a moment about the absolutely Byzantine concoctions provided by very ordinary Jews as they manufacture their holocaust tales.

Muslims Did Not Use Suicide as a Method in Previous Wars

[MrSpock:] So the person believes that he won't really die, only go "to another place". Isn't that what all religion is all about? Of course it is. Muslims just happened to "activate" this belief in a larger than average percentage.

Islam has been around for 1400 years. Is suicide a religio-cultural tradition? Looking only at history in the last 150 years can you point to suicide as a method of fighting the enemy? The French experience with Muslim terrorists in Algeria had its bombers, but no suicide bombers. The English experience in fighting the Arabs in 1918 in Iraq was fierce, but no suicide bombers. Israel has been fighting the Palestinians since 1948, where are the Muslim suicide bombers in those years between 1948 and 1985? If it were a religious predilection it would not have made a sudden appearance in Israel within the last twenty years. Islam is a worldwide religion, fighting battles in places far from the Palestinian conflict ­ before 1985 where were the Muslim suicide bombers outside of Israel?

In addition, it is the case that many of the so-called suicide terrorists are not religious. How can a religion induce a person to commit suicide with the promise of honor in heaven if that person is not a believer?

You agreed with my statement "Suicide is absolutely unnatural; it is an aberration in creatures whose instinct is to survive. It is not easy to override that instinct.. But just to add another dimension to our survival instinct, think of what you know about mothers. Is it not the case that protection of her young is primary? It is not difficult for us to imagine a mother who sacrifices herself for her child, we can understand that. But can we imagine a mother of two small children ready to commit suicide for a cause? A mother would not have the inducement of "72 virgins waiting on the other side" as Muslim haters mockingly cite.

Getting involved in a case by case dispute over hundreds, possibly thousands of these reports is not possible for us. I am just not willing to accept at face value the reports of suicide bombers coming out of the Middle East for all the reasons I have discussed. I do not have to present an alternative explanation for every death that has been attributed to a suicide bomber to cast doubt on the stories. It would be akin to disputing the six million figure for the holocaust by examining each of the six million. The story can be undercut in other ways. I have tried to do that.

I once met a suicide-promoting cleric in an Arab country and listened to him for a while. He was not an Arab, but he wanted to look like one. He spoke like one. He coordinated with local intelligence and the Mossad. And nobody touched him. He talked to young men about suicide. He was a suicide talk trainer. The boys talked about suicide and were all incarcerated, but the Israeli myth of the suicide bomber was born.

I don't think that there are suicide trainers, but suicide-talk trainers. I believe that videos declaring intent to go on a suicide mission are staged under drugs or under torture.

Cloak News - Washington, D.C. - Zapata Engineering, an offshoot of Zapata Oil with offices in North Carolina, Hawaii and Tel Aviv, have now been linked to the hiring of private Mossad contractors aka alleged Israeli Engineers in Iraq. Of course that is not the real story.

It can now be reported that Zapata Engineering has hired these Israeli Mossad-types into Iraq for the purposes of alleged counter-insurgency.

However, the alleged Israeli engineers have now been fingered for sniping at U.S. Soldiers and the murder of two female American Marines who had their throats slit and then placed in garbage dumps.

These female Marines had been investigating the origins of the I.E.D. (Improvised Explosives Devices). And of course it gets worse. It can now be reported that the origin of the I.E.D.’s, come not from Iran, but come from Zapata Engineering of North Carolina, Hawaii and Tel Aviv.

And now of course, it really gets worse. The projectile’s discovered by American Special Forces have depleted uranium tips which connects directly to the Israeli company Rafael, which of course is owned by Zapata Engineering of North Carolina, Hawaii and Tel Aviv.

NEW Documents Show U.S. Torture Was Planned Long Ago

This diary is meant as an adjunct to Buckeye Hamburger's excellent diary, Interrogator Confesses Abuse of Iraqi Prisoners on WaPo. That story concerns the revelations of Eric Fair, a former Army contractor in Iraq, who admits that he engaged in torture and cruel and unusual punishments while working as an interrogator in Iraq. He sounds like the classic "I was following orders" type, except he is now haunted by the abuse he helped perpetrate.


I wish to make public for the first time documents I recently obtained that show that mental health professionals who were researching torture in the 1950s knew very well that they were contributing to something sinister, even if some of them hoped that the psychological knowledge of human weaknesses they obtained would be used to help people, rather than hurt them. Still, others were not so sure, as you will see.

I have been examining publications documenting two psychiatric symposia held in the 1950s. The first was entitled "Factors Used to Increase the Susceptiblity of Individuals to Forceful Indoctrination: Observations and Experiments"; the second is titled "Methods of Forceful Indoctrination: Observations and Interviews". I'm sorry, you cannot find the text for these on the Internet. I suppose the copyright is still held by the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP), which both sponsored and published the results of these symposia. Any quotes used herein are amply within the criteria of fair use, and will be kept to a minimum.


I have written extensively at Daily Kos on the history of torture (here's a recent link). My plan is to use the material from this and other stories for a more comprehensively written history in the near future, to be published in an academic journal.


For many, the relevations of Eric Fair are news. But I can tell you that it is very old hat to me, and I want to show you that it is not an anomaly. If we are to fight these kinds of crimes and change the course of our country's direction, then we must know this history.


I will start with this quote from "Methods of Forceful Indoctrination". It's from a summary by Dr. Lawrence Hinkle, Jr., a "discussant" at the psychiatric symposium (held the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry at the Berkeley-Carteret Hotel, Asbury Park, NJ, Nov. 11, 1956). He is discussing what has been learned about torture and indoctrination from a study of Russian, Chinese, and East European Secret Police systems, as well as from observations and experiments done by U.S. psychiatrists, psychologists and social scientists.


The essential feature of these methods is isolation and repetitive interrogation, the use of much personal history material; all of this carried out in an atmosphere productive of fatigue, sleep loss, and the various forms of physiological disturbance which can be produced by hunger, cold, unusual positions and the like. Prominent features of the reactions of the prisoner are anxiety, unceratinty, and intolerable discomfort. If this regimen is carried forward long enough it usually leads to mental dulling, confusion, loss of discrimination and despondency, associated with an intesne desire to escape from the situation; and the ultimate result of this type of pressure is a state of delirium, assocated with hallucinatory and delusional experiences.

Some of those present at the GAP symposia that day had some concerns. Dr. John C. Lilly, from the National Institute of Mental Health, was moderator that day. (Yes, this is the same Dr. Lilly who inspired the movies Altered States and Day of the Dolphin, who experimented with hallucinogens and sensory deprivation tanks.) He reflected, ominously, after Hinkle finished:


I hope this material does not help those who use the methods to sharpen up their technique to make them more effective.

Lilly knew personally of what he warned, as he had already been approached by the CIA to use his research in the mind control program the U.S. government was conducting. From the classic book by John Marks, The Search for the Manchurian Candidate:


In 1953 Lilly worked at the National Institutes of Health, outside Washington, doing experimental studies in an effort to "map" the body functions controlled from various locations in the brain....


As Lilly refined his brain "maps," officials of the CIA and other agencies descended upon him with a request for a briefing. Having a phobia against secrecy, Lilly agreed to the briefing only under the condition that it and his work remain unclassified, completely open to outsiders. The intelligence officials submitted to the conditions most reluctantly, since they knew that Lilly's openness would not only ruin the spy value of anything they learned but could also reveal the identities and the interests of the intelligence officials to enemy agents. They considered Lilly annoying, uncooperative -- possibly even suspicious....


Lilly's security clearance was withdrawn for review, then tangled up and misplaced -- all of which he took as pressure to cooperate with the CIA....


Lilly realized that the intelligence agencies were not interested in sensory deprivation because of its positive benefits, and he finally concluded that it was impossible for him to work at the National Institutes of Health without compromising his principles. He quit in 1958.

But the psychiatric symposia whose reports have come into my hands were conducted two years before Lilly left NIMH. In 1956 and 1957, he was still with NIMH, and he was moderating these presentations, whose subjects were:

United States Air Force Prisoners of the Chinese Communists


The concentration of the latter symposia on the experience of U.S. prisoners of war, and on Chinese "thought reform" techniques was due to the shock with which the Pentagon greeted the "confessions" of many American prisoners of war held by the North Koreans and Chinese during the Korean War. It was believed that the captured airmen and soldiers must have been horribly tortured to have capitulated and slandered their country and its armed forces.


But there was not always physical evidence of torture. No racks, no Iron Maidens, no sustained beatings (though the latter occurred from time to time). It soon became apparent that another force was at work, and the Americans wanted to understand it, to prepare future American armed forces for procedures to counter interrogation by foreign enemies.


At the same time, psychological researchers, such as Donald Hebb, and psychiatric researchers like Robert Lifton and Lawrence Hinkle, were discovering facts about human neurology and psychology that would contribute to a new paradigm of American counterintelligence interrogation. This new model relied heavily on the practical discoveries of the Soviet NKVD/KGB, the Chinese Red Army and Communist Party, and the North Korean experience. It also relied on experiments, studies and theories worked out in U.S. universities and laboratories, funded by the Pentagon and the CIA.


Lessons from the Korean War and the American POW Experience


How well the U.S. learned from the captors of U.S. airmen is described by Dr. Louis West at the GAP 1957 symposium. (Think of what you've read of Gitmo or Abu Ghraib as you peruse the following.)


The Chinese Communists had initiated a "world-wide germ warfare propaganda campaign" in early 1952, and placed the blame directly on U.S. pilots "who presumably were the instruments by which bacteriological weapons were delivered". 235 Air Force returnees were studied "in considerable detail". There were atrocities, e.g., using prisoners as hostages, force marching them, etc. But the psychiatrists at Asbury Park were concerned with "the second type of exploitation... systematic control and pressure":


... the enemy had a considerable degree of success in obraining intelligence information and in forcing prisoners to engage in propaganda activities....


There was no time when the prisoner could be sure that he was through with a particular ordeal....


They would be held in solitary confinement, and they would discuss their alleged crimes with the interrogators until they were ready to confess them....


A number of other tchniques were also empoloyed in an effort to elicit compliance, but the use of isolation was one techinque that appears to have been employed in virutally every case.... Clearly the Communists reagarded isolation as a valuable means of increasing the influenceability of individuals in their control.

And Isolation would thus come to stand at the center of the new U.S. paradigm of interrogation and torture. It is still authorized to be used in the new, highly-touted, supposedly torture-free Army interrogation manual.


Dr. West continues:


The captors constantly attempted to focus the attention of the prisoner on what they defined as his predicament, his case, or his problem. He was constantly reminded of his complete dependence on his captors. In addition, there was a clear-cut restriction of all types of sensory experience. There was also a systematic debility produced by a limited diet, polonged interogation under extreme tension, sleep deprivation, etc. There were constant attempts to induce anxiety and despair. The pattern of debility, dependency and dread has been tagged "DDD"....


A particulary effective means of inducing pain and fatigue was to subject a prisoner to prolonged interrogation while forcing him to mainatin a standing position.... It was very rare that a prisoner was able to perceive that the enemy was in effect making him torture himself.


Anyone thinking here of the forced positions we saw prisoners forced to assume in the pictures from Abu Ghraib? I would think so. And I would hope you are starting to see how the procedures used by Eric Fair and others were not accidental. They were planned. They were studied. They were meant to achieve a particular effect.


Some of the material in the GAP symposia, necessarily borders on the macabre. Dr. Josef Brozek, of "the famous Minnesota Starvation Study", gives a contribution on the effects of semi-starvation that sounds like Dr. Stangelove at his strangest:


A situation in which food would lbe offered on certain occasions and would be withdrawn on other occasions would constitute a more intesnive psychological stress than food restriction alone. It would result in severe frutstation, and would more readily break a man's moral fiber. By combining such a treatment with other forms of deprivation and insult, one could expect eventually to induce a "breakdown" in the the majority of human beings. [My emphasis]


The contribution of Dr. Lawrence Hinkle, described by Marks in his book as one of the chief "brainwasher" researchers for the U.S. government, is particularly notable as to the question of what these medical men knew as regards the use of their product. This last quote brings us full circle back to the Hinkle speech with which I began this analysis.


I cannot tell you too much about our sources, expcept to say that we did have access to information from sources available to the gorvernment.... direct observation of persons recently released from Communist prisons ... continued for weeks, or even months... These included, in many cases, complete physical, nuerological and psychiatric examinations, and psychological testing....

I want to give special credit to some of the men whose work you have heard presented there today. I think they have added significantly to our knowledge in an area where we constantly need more knowledge.

I hope I have presented enough to give you a taste of the dark history of the U.S. research into brainwashing, "forceful indoctrination", interrogation, and torture. The "knowledge" gained was put to use in torture manuals like the CIA's mid-1960s KUBARK document, and in the torture and interrogation activities of Bush's imperial army in Baghram, Fallujah, Guantanamo Bay, and assorted secret prisons run by the CIA throughout Europe.

Report: Red Cross found CIA abuse

Terror detainees once held in the CIA's secret prisons were kept and questioned under highly abusive conditions, the International Committee of the Red Cross says in a confidential report based on interviews with high-value terror suspects.

Sleep deprivation and the use of forced standing and other so-called ''stress positions'' were reported by the 14 suspects transferred last year to Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, the ICRC said.

The CIA's detention methods were designed to soften detainees and make them more likely to talk during interrogation. Human rights organizations say the CIA's extreme conditions of detention and the coercive questioning techniques constitute torture.

The report is the first independent accounting of the detainees' allegations against the CIA since its detention and interrogation program began in 2002.

Red Cross delegates got access to the men at Guantánamo in October -- in some instances years after they disappeared into CIA detention at secret U.S. ally sites around the world.

U.S. officials familiar with the report, who spoke only on condition of anonymity because the highly sensitive document has not been released, said it is based entirely on accounts from interviews with detainees and has not been verified.

One official cautioned that the claims were made by terror suspects who could be charged in the deaths of innocent civilians.

Red Cross spokesman Simon Schorno said that the committee's visits with the 14 detainees served two purposes: to assess their current conditions in detention and to give them an opportunity to talk about past detentions.

''We do not comment on our findings publicly. The report is a confidential document,'' Schorno said Monday.

CIA spokesman Mark Mansfield declined to comment on any ICRC reports, citing the organization's practice of keeping its findings confidential.

Speaking generally of CIA interrogation program, Mansfield said the United States does not practice or condone torture. ''CIA's terrorist interrogation program has been conducted lawfully, with great care and close review, producing vital information that has helped disrupt plots and save lives,'' he added.

House Intelligence Chairman Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, said he has gotten a general briefing on the ICRC report but has not read it. ''There are allegations that are made by these 14, and they are vehemently denied by General Hayden and the intelligence folks,'' he said, referring to CIA Director Michael Hayden.

Not long after the March 2002 capture of top al Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah, the CIA began formalizing its detention and interrogation program. The CIA decided it would need to hold high-value terrorists such as Zubaydah for extended periods in an effort to extract information.

They began using some ''enhanced interrogation techniques'' -- or ''EITs'' in CIA-speak -- with success.

Those widely reported practices include openhanded slapping, induced hypothermia, sleep deprivation and -- perhaps most controversially -- waterboarding. In that technique, a detainee is made to believe he is drowning.

Buttressed by at least one classified legal opinion from the Justice Department, the CIA believed it was operating lawfully in detaining and interrogating roughly 100 suspected terrorists at locations from Southeast Asia to Europe.

''The [interrogation] procedures were tough, and they were safe, and lawful, and necessary,'' President Bush said in September when he announced that all the CIA's remaining detainees had been moved to military custody at Guantánamo Bay.

Asked last month if the prisons were still empty, a CIA official declined to comment.

During a military hearing to review his detention status this month, the CIA's most prized capture -- alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed -- confessed involvement in 31 plots since the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

He also said he was tortured.

Two senators present for Mohammed's March 10 hearing -- Senate Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. -- confirmed the tribunal was presented with a written statement from Mohammed alleging mistreatment before his arrival at Guantánamo; it was made part of the classified record.

The senators said the military panel will submit the allegations to appropriate authorities.

''Allegations of prisoner mistreatment must be taken seriously and properly investigated,'' Levin and Graham said in their statement. ``To do otherwise would reflect poorly on our nation.''

A U.S. official said the allegations raised by Mohammed were forwarded to the CIA's inspector general, which has been monitoring the agency's interrogation program for years.

In an interview Tuesday, Levin said he'll also be investigating Mohammed's claims of abuse, starting with his classified statement. Asked if the review by the CIA's top watchdog would be enough, Levin said he wasn't sure it would be sufficient. ''They have a responsibility to look at it. That doesn't mean that no one else does,'' he said.

Levin said he has given a summary of the ICRC report, but he declined to comment on its contents.

Many of the techniques that detainees reported to the ICRC are consistent with published reports about the CIA's interrogation program and its enhanced interrogation techniques.

Yet U.S. counterterrorism officials have long cautioned that al Qaeda members are likely to lie about conditions during captivity and they cite a jihadist training manual obtained by British authorities during a raid on an al Qaeda member's home. The Justice Department made portions of the document public in December 2001, including a lesson on prisons and detention centers that encourages claims of mistreatment.

The ICRC has a policy of not releasing reports on its visits with prisoners. The Geneva-based organization believes that allows its officials to get repeated and unrestricted access to prisoners. When necessary, the organization urges the detaining authorities to make improvements.

''The price of this is a policy of confidentiality, taking up the problems only with the people directly concerned,'' according to a policy statement on its Web site. The ICRC says it will only break its silence in extreme cases, such as when the condition of prisoners hasn't improved.

Transportation Security Administration officials have announced two major changes:
Travelers may now carry through security checkpoints travel size toiletries ( 3 oz or less) that fit comfortably in ONE, Quart- SIZE, clear plastic, zip ­top bag. Pay attention and follow directions or that trip to Disney World can be cancelled!



After clearing security, travelers can now bring beverages and other items purchased in the secure boarding area, on-board the aircraft.
At the checkpoint travelers will be asked to remove the zip-top bag of liquids and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt, x-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.



I suppose that if you've been on vacation and bought a jug of Maple Syrup; you're going to have to drink all but three ounces? This is what happens when billions of dollars are thrown to the wind to create these ridiculous alphabet agencies. Follow the money ­ a few are making billions off of this Mad Hatter's Tea Party! Transportation Security Screeners will now be called 'supervisors'; because important titles will make it appear that these recent GED graduates or former employees of Block Buster etc ­ know what they're doing; as they order folks around (who can afford to travel and they can't) pawing them, swabbing their briefcases and ordering wheelchair bound seniors to remove orthopedic shoes: as colostomy bags and heart medications and hip replacements are carefully gone over! Nursing mothers meantime are made to prove that its milk that has breasts hanging heavy and not nitroglycerin. Toddlers with sneakers or stuffed animals will be carefully scrutinized.

After you're searched and prodded, frisked, scanned, sniffed, and carefully watched; least you make some suspicious movement, you are then subjected to the body scanner, which will have these rent-a-cops radiating and undressing you ­in case all the groping, metal detectors missed something! Radiation ­ no need to fear, the government announces it as SAFE!



"Freedom's just another word".note that the Executive branch, the Supreme Court , visiting dignitaries, (including renowned diabolical dictators), the President's family, corporate executives etc; are not subjected to these Gestapo tactics. NO, these machines and rent-a-cops are not on our southern border. Only American's are subjected to this scrutiny. No matter what your thoughts are on immigration ­ it stands to reason that legions of 'terrorists' could simply walk in here while 93 year old seniors are being frisked!



The face and body language specialists (just rent-a-cops with ties and fancier badges) will be carefully observing you from the shadows; to check off things pertaining to your face or movements; that might show you for the liar, manipulator, and contemptible threat to humanity that you really are, and thus not fit to travel! You may be the unfortunate person who is just naturally petulant, harried, or (like Cheney) born with a perpetual sneer, which will have you pulled aside and interrogated! The message appears to be that one must remain placid and emotionless-and fearful!



It's really about conformity and compliance and has nothing to do with protecting the nation. Common sense will tell you that! PLEASE ­ toothpaste, hair gel, baby formula etc!



Why a terrorist would use an airport, when we have 6 million + cargo containers (unsearched) entering the country yearly beats me? This doesn't count the hundreds of thousands of trucks (recently passed by Congress) entering over the Mexican border! There is no feasible way to check what's on these semis! Meantime, passengers manhandled and searched; then get onto planes filled with tons of UNSEARCHED cargo under their feet! No it's not about security.



I suggest that these scanners ­searchers ­ prodders - and behavioral monitors be posted at the: White House, the Supreme Court, the Defense Dept, the State Department, Congress, Capitol hallways, and the local watering holes and board rooms; to catch the real threats to representative democracy. Hey, maybe we'll find that $2 trillion missing from the Defense Dept, or the paltry $9 billion that disappeared in Iraq (under Bremer). Maybe it's just paranoid me; but I think millions of containers from a country that has stolen all of our trade secrets; is a lot more suspicious than liquid wart remover, or a ninety-three year old Alzheimer patient, in orthopedic terrorist shoes! Hmm, now if we were politicians or corporate honchos, we could bypass this pawing and and fly in corporate privacy! But then, this is all just practice for the management of the global plantation.

I had visited several times and there was something nagging at me. I could not work out what left me uniquely unsettled about the place. It was not the depressing environment; few prisons are inspirational. It was not the occasional intimidation. Eventually it came to me: I could not remember being lied to so often and so consistently. In Guantánamo, lying was a disease that had reached pandemic proportions.

Former "detainee" Binyam Mohamed [British resident arrested in Pakistan] viewed the whole military commission process as a con, a lie that was meant to deceive the world. In June 2006 the supreme court said the same, in more temperate terms, and struck down the commissions as illegal. It rejected Donald Rumsfeld's assurance that the trials would be fair, accusing the administration of "jettisoning" legal rights.

In Guantánamo, the military began with smaller lies and worked upwards. I was visiting Camp Echo one day and they had messed up the visitation schedule. The client I was meant to see was not there, although I had sent the schedule for my visits several weeks before. I thought I might as well go ahead and see Shaker Aamer [British resident captured in Afghanistan], whom I was not meant to meet until later in the week. So I asked the SOG (the sergeant of the guard, in charge of the camp) whether Shaker was in his normal cell. "No, he's not here," the SOG replied. I settled down for another wasted hour, waiting for the military to bring over someone I could see. It was hot even under the umbrella at the "picnic table" - the area behind one of the cells in Camp Echo where they made lawyers wait. I watched a lizard crawling up the green mesh on the wire fence. I thought about the spider in Robert the Bruce's cave, continually battling to spin its web and teaching patience to the early Scottish nationalists.

The next day I saw Shaker. "Were you here yesterday?" I asked. "Yeah, of course. I've been here for weeks," he replied. So why did the SOG lie to me? He could have said, "Sorry, sir. I am not permitted to speak about that," or "Yes, sir, he is here, but I am afraid we cannot deviate from the schedule." Instead he looked me in the eye and lied. It was unsettling. He had seemed a clean-cut, well-mannered sort of person.

The dissembling disease got worse as time passed. First there was the effort to suppress the truth, with censorship or silence rather than any overt falsehood. Then there was the lie by semantics, where the US military redefined the language to provide plausible deniability. Finally, there was the bare-faced lie. This kind of culture does not germinate in a vacuum. Rumsfeld is responsible for a reconstitution of the English language. I set about compiling a glossary of the Gitmo-speak. The language was so deceptive that I found it appalling and amusing in equal measure.

In a December 2004 press conference, the US navy secretary Gordon England tried to defend conditions in Guantánamo by producing the novel argument that the camp was rehabilitative: "People have learned to read and have learned to write, and so it's not just being incarcerated. We do try to get people prepared for a better life." Prisoners had some difficulty exercising their new-found abilities. Indeed, contrary to England's statement, prisoners in Guantánamo were certainly not considered "people" and the guards were not even allowed to call them "prisoners". One of the escorts told me that, on pain of punishment, soldiers are required to call them "detainees". He wouldn't even say the word "prisoner" out loud. The Pentagon had come to the conclusion that it sounds better for us to "detain" someone for several years, given that he has not been offered a trial. Naturally I set about avoiding the word "detainee".

Meanwhile the authorities exercised rigid control over any information that the prisoners received. Each time I went to visit, I would take a suitcase full of reading materials. I maintained a log reflecting the fate of each publication. Magazines awarded the stamp DENIED included National Geographic, Scientific American and Runner's World. On one occasion it seemed justified, since that month's National Geographic had a story about building an atomic bomb, but the editions about whales and African tribes hardly seemed a threat to national security. One soldier explained the censorship of Scientific American to me: the prisoner might learn about some hi-tech weapons system. Banning Runner's World was less obvious, given the naval base was surrounded on one side by a Cuban minefield and on the other three by ocean.

I was surprised - and Shaker Aamer was incensed - that they would not let in The African-American Slave by Frederick Douglass. Uncle Tom's Cabin was also barred. I dropped off an anthology of first world war poetry for Omar Deghayes that included Wilfred Owen's poem Futility, about the ghastly violence of war. It was returned DENIED.

Omar was born in 1969 and was a British refugee from Libya. His father was tortured and killed by Muammar Gadafy in 1980, and as a teenager Omar moved with his family to Brighton and studied law. He had not completed his law exams, so I brought his books so he could study, ready for his release. Law books, though, were not permitted, least of all a subversive tome about the legal rights of prisoners.

The Save Omar campaign auctioned off an autographed copy of John Pilger's book Hidden Agendas to raise funds. The highest bidder donated it back, so I could try to get it in to Omar. It was written in 1998 and the index had no references to Islamic extremism. The most controversial statement I could see in the book was Pilger's comment that most of the victims of terrorism were Muslims. It never got through.

At this point British political authors began to vie for the status of having a book banned. The New Statesman editor John Kampfner gave me a signed copy of his book Blair's Wars for Omar. Clare Short signed a copy of An Honourable Deception? New Labour, Iraq and the Misuse of Power with a dedication: "Hope you will be back with us soon, Omar.". An inverted snobbery began to develop: if your book slipped through the censors, perhaps that would cast doubt on the credibility of your opinions. I worried that Jeremy Paxman would be disappointed that his book The English was allowed in.

The only Australian left in Guantánamo, David Hicks, was facing a military con-mission, like Binyam, and his lawyer was banned from giving him Scott Turow's legal thriller Presumed Innocent. The basis for censoring The New Dinkum Aussie Dictionary was less clear. Perhaps the strangest decision involved four books returned with the notation: "These Items were not Cleared for Delivery to the Detainee(s)." They were Puss in Boots, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Beauty and the Beast - all in Arabic translation. As one FBI agent admonished me: "You know that Arabic script is full of squiggles, and it can easily hide messages to the prisoners." Could it be, I wondered, that Cinderella was secretly an enemy combatant? Eventually the military barred us from bringing books for our clients altogether. So much for education.

Next there was the senseless secrecy. Every word that my Guantánamo clients said to me was deemed classified and I had to get permission from censors to reveal it. To violate them would be a criminal offence and I could end up in jail. Whenever I met with a client I would take notes, but I could not take them with me when I left. I was obliged to put them into an envelope, seal them with SECRET stickers and give them to the military escort to mail to Washington. The notes went by normal mail, which seemed far from secure. Indeed, the first time I visited the military lost my notes for weeks.

This procedure prevented the lawyers from revealing the truth about Guantánamo for a long time after any visit. This meant that I would visit Guantánamo, fly back to England, then return to Washington three weeks later to review my own notes. Meanwhile I was forbidden from saying anything to anyone about what my clients had said. Once the notes arrived in Washington, I would get notice that I could come to the "secure facility" to review them and submit facts for classification review. Even today I cannot repeat some of what my clients told me, but nothing I learned in Guantánamo would be classified in a sane world. I never saw anything that was relevant to US national security, unless it would make the US less secure to admit the truth about torture committed by American personnel.

All this was to control the flow of bad news out of Guantánamo. From the beginning Joe Margulies, the other civilian lawyer working for Binyam Mohamed, encapsulated the proper response to this: if we could open up the prison to public inspection, the government would close it down. The awkward truth about what was happening there would outweigh any perceived benefit of keeping the prison open. Meanwhile, the government wrote the rules. The military censor was dogged in defence. It was not his fault; he was merely applying the rules and trying to do it as politely as possible when we met in the secret Washington facility.

In November 2004, I met Moazzam Begg in Camp Echo. Moazzam was from Birmingham, and we talked for hours and he poured out his desperate experiences. He impressed me from the beginning with his understated eloquence. He had been with his family in Afghanistan, working on a charitable project that involved schools and water wells. When he and his family fled the war to Pakistan, he became one of hundreds sold for bounties to the Americans. Later, he ended up in Guantánamo, tarred as a major terrorist.

When my notes got back to Washington, in January 2005, I wrote a 40-page memo about how Moazzam had been abused by the US military in Afghanistan. Every word was censored. The way the military had pretended to torture his wife in the next room, even information about American soldiers murdering two prisoners in front of Moazzam, was considered a "method of interrogation" that could not be revealed. I was not allowed to reveal how my clients' mental health was crumbling either. Moazzam had been tortured, then held in solitary confinement for 18 months; he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder; he had nightmares, flashbacks, all the symptoms. But this, the military said, was a privacy issue.

The effort to suppress this backfired. Had they come out immediately, the facts of Moazzam's abuse would have soon have slipped into obscurity. The cover-up ran and ran. I wrote one letter to Tony Blair which began with a title, Re: Torture and Abuse of British Citizens in Guantánamo Bay. The next two pages were the highlights of the torture committed against Moazzam and other British citizens. I put in a paragraph saying, "Anything that has been censored or blacked out in this letter, your close allies in the United States don't think you should be allowed to hear." I then attached the 40-page memo detailing Moazzam's abuse. What I got back from the censor was extraordinary. Every word about torture was declared to be classified, except the title, but the last sentence made it past the hovering black marker.

By now there were perhaps a dozen on our team of volunteer lawyers and each one was running into similar problems with the censorship regulations. We tried to press the issues systematically, and eventually the government was persuaded to relax the rules. At last we could get information out to prove how the clients had been mistreated, and the memos about Moazzam's mistreatment were cleared. Indeed, with the threat of this evidence of torture making it into the public eye, the pressure on the Bush administration increased, and at the end of January, Moazzam and the three British prisoners who remained in the prison (Feroz Abbasi, Richard Belmar and Martin Mubanga) were set free.

Moazzam and Feroz had been among the six prisoners originally charged in the military commissions, supposedly the very worst terrorists on the base. Their release, and the fact that the British government found no charges to bring against them, illustrated the extent of the US military's delusion.

Gaining trust

Gaining trust is not easy. When we won the right to visit the prisoners the military tried to outflank us. They began by sending in interrogators pretending to be lawyers. They said all the lawyers were Jewish, relying on perceived Muslim prejudices to drive a wedge.

The next gambit was arguably even sillier. "They have been saying ..." Usama Abu Kabir hesitates, not wanting to go on. "They say ... " By this time Usama is scarlet. He is a courteous man. "Well ... that you like having sex with men!" I want to say that it should make no difference to him. I can't afford to, as so many of my clients here have been brought up in conservative Islamic countries, and we don't have time for a debate. I have to wave my wedding ring about and issue a denial.

There are valid reasons for mistrust. What is to distinguish the lawyer from an interrogator after years of deception? To represent a prisoner here you must be an American citizen. "Hi! I'm from America and I'm here to help you." When a prisoner has a legal visit it is called a "reservation", the euphemism used for interrogation.

Some lawyers say the meetings are confidential. The prisoners laugh. Everyone knows that there are cameras in the cell and microphones by the door.

There are other problems. One saw a client for the first time with a translator whom the prisoner had previously seen working with US military intelligence.

Mainstream Mum on Jewish Terror Attack

Paul Fromm, a noted free-speech activist in Canada, was physically assaulted by members of the Jewish Defense League, a group classified by the U.S. government as one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations operating on U.S. soil. Fromm spoke with AFP from his home in Toronto about the event.

On April 19, Fromm—well known to readers of AFP for his work with the Canadian Association for Free Expression—was en route to the College of Teachers where hearings were being conducted in what is now known to be a Zionist-instigated attempt to revoke his teaching certificate. At the center of this inquisition are Fromm’s outspoken views with regard to free speech, immigration and, last but not least, his association with Ernst Zundel, currently serving a five-year prison sentence in Germany for questioning the Holocaust.

Fromm’s troubles began in 1991 when he became the target of a six-year campaign of leaked news stories and harassment by the Canadian Jewish Congress and the League for Human Rights of B’nai B’rith (adjunct of the Anti-Defamation League) to pressure the Peel Board of Education to fire him for his political activities.

Underscoring the vindictive nature of this campaign is the fact that Fromm’s activities took place on his own time and off school property.

By 1997 the various Jewish pressure groups—always lecturing others on issues such as hate, intolerance, censorship etc.—in addition to threatening him with violence, had succeeded in having him fired from his job under charges of “persistent disrespect for multi-cultural and ethno-cultural equity.”

Not content with merely having him fired, now these groups want his teaching certificate revoked so he can’t teach anywhere in Canada.

When Fromm arrived on the morning of April 19 for the hearing, he found 10 JDL thugs waiting there already, waving Israeli flags and other Zionist-oriented placards hypocritically mentioning the word “terrorism” on them.

Once the JDL thugs recognized Fromm, one of them shouted “There he is,” at which point some of them began trailing him.

When Fromm attempted to get onto an elevator filled with office workers three of the thugs forced their way on, as did two uniformed police officers.

Not comfortable being in such close proximity with individuals noted for their violent tactics, Fromm attempted to step off the elevator before the doors closed. When he tried stepping off, one man grabbed Fromm and growled at him, with the two uniformed Toronto police officers present,

“You’re not going anywhere. You’re going with us” in what was an obvious threat to kidnap him. He then grabbed Fromm by the throat and started choking him. One of the policemen intervened and attempted to pull the JDL thug off Fromm. The moment the elevator doors opened the fight poured out into the lobby, allowing Fromm to escape, at which point the police were fist-fighting with JDL operatives who served up a stew of vulgar shouts and four-letter words that for obvious reasons of decorum cannot be reprinted here.

At the end of it one officer was slightly injured, and the JDL assailants were arrested by Toronto Metro Police and charged with not only assaulting Fromm and the police officers but also with obstruction of police duties.

Fromm is talking with a lawyer over the possibility of adding attempted kidnapping charges. Since that time Fromm has received harassing phone calls to his home. The incident has received scant coverage in the press, which is careful not to paint the Jewish lobby in Canada unfavorably. The coverage it has received has been slanted and skewed to where it has been characterized as a “confrontation with activists” rather than as an assault by known terrorists.

The hearings into Fromm’s teaching career continue on May 1. Fromm has demanded that the same college requiring his presence at the hearings assure that the safety of his person is provided to prevent a recurrence of the recent events.

In pursuance of revoking his teaching certificate, Fromm is accused of “unbecoming conduct.” During his 24-year teaching career as an English instructor, Fromm had been hailed by Robert Lee, director of education in Peel, Ontario, as “an exemplary teacher” and repeatedly received high commendations on his work.

Fromm’s statement to AFP is unequivocal: “Zionist terrorism has got to stop. Whether it is assassinating Arab leaders in the West Bank and elsewhere, or assaulting and intimidating supporters of free speech, it has to be resisted if civilized society is to prevail.”

Detective Sgt. Rick Pomorski said federal officials took custody of one of the men for a visa violation, but left the other three with police after questioning them and determining the men were probably telling the truth when they said they wanted a license so it would be easier to tour America.

The act is a five-year felony.

Abu Ghraib Cover-up About to Explode

Gen. Antonio Taguba is one of America’s most respected senior officers, was put in charge of the Abu Ghraib investigation, and has now leveled a series of powerful public
charges that will soon blow this case sky-high.

Gen. Taguba went public early this week in long on-the-record interviews with Sy Hersh reported in his New Yorker piece now on newsstands.

Among other things, Taguba says:

1. He was ordered not to investigate higher-ups in the chain of command, which means
there was (is) a cover-up protecting the highest-ranking Bush administration officials who might have criminal liability.

2. Early in his investigation he was threatened with career retribution if he dared to seek the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

3. After his investigation he was punished by being forced into early retirement.

4. He suggests that Don Rumsfeld might have lied when he testified before Congress, which would be a criminal offense.

5. He details meetings in which Rumsfeld spoke to him in terms that were sarcastic,
rude and unprofessional shortly before Rumsfeld would publicly say how much he
supported the investigation and wanted the truth to come out.

6. He reveals specific acts of torture that are beyond what was publicly known, and videos of Abu Ghraib torture have not been released that provide strong evidence that the crimes of Abu Ghraib were known earlier and far higher up than previously reported.

7. He expresses serious concern that the same forms of torture used at Abu
Ghraib were (are?) also used at Guantanamo Bay, which remains open and the subject of world-wide condemnation.

At some point Gen. Taguba will be called to testify publicly and will prove one of the most explosive witnesses in six years, while investigative reporters and almost certainly congressional committees are currently looking into Abu Ghraib.

The implications of this are enormous because they go to potential perjury and giving false testimony to Congress and investigators, and lead outward throughout the dark side of the Bush years.

There is a high probability that investigation of the Abu Ghraib crimes and cover-up will lead upward to Donald Rumsfeld and his coterie of neoconservative aides and their
shadow CIA run through the Department of Defense.

There is a substantial possibility this leads to the role of Alberto Gonzales on the range of torture issues at the Department of Justice and during his years as White House Counsel.

There is significant possibility this leads to Vice President Cheney, the most aggressive
advocate of what the world considers torture of any senior official anywhere in the free world.

Gen. Taguba should be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his honor, integrity and courage throughout this shameful episode and for having the honor to speak out publicly, visibly and unequivocally now.

The stakes are high and the storm clouds are gathering for those who committed, ordered or covered up crimes of torture.
